The fourth largest work of its kind in Europe, this is an elaborate series of hand-crafted dioramas depicting scenes from the life of Christ, but set in villages and scenery across Basilicata. If you are on a tour through Basilicata, this is a good chance to see some of the scenes you will already know, or may have missed, but rendered artistically in a moving way, with a play of lights transitioning through day and night, and back again. Any visit to Anzi should include the Presepe, and you can organise a visit through the local tourism organisation or the proloco (it normally comes as part of guided tours which include the observatory and the churches).

Part of my family heritage is from Anzi Italy. We will be visiting the area in September and wondering if this is worth a stop. Also does anyone have any suggestions for finding out info about relatives? I have sent messages to the city offices and also the diocese of Potenza as I have plenty of info on birth dates and marriage dates thanks so much

Were you successful? We’re trying to trace our great grandfather, who was born in Anzi in 1866. We also have sent emails to town officials.
