This museum is very good and I think underutilized. The mineral displays are magnificent, but some are poorly lit and cannot be appreciated as they should be. If you are are mineral bug like me, don't miss this place.

Went here on a recommendation, and we were not disappointed. They do not call Montana the "Treasure State" for no reason. I truly enjoyed this free exhibit and I am not a geology nerd, but if I was, I would love it 10 times as...More

There were rocks and gems from all over the world but mostly on rocks minded here in Butte. Good signage and descriptions go with each sample. Since Butte represents mining in Montana, this is the place to go and see what it's all about.

It may not be the Harvard Museum of Natural History, but it is interesting and worthwhile nonetheless. Great collection of rocks and minerals. The campus of Montana Tech is set way up in the hills providing an overview of the city. Great way to spend...More

This is a good place to come before or after a visit to the nearby mining museum. It's free, uncrowded and the curator is keen to share his passion for gems and Butte's history. There are local gems, and some overseas ones. Also meteorites. There...More
