I'm a huge fan of capitols. They present the state to its people and to outsiders. Montana's is lovely. There's no security to go through, just a nice guard who pointed out the self-guided tour pamphlets. There is a sign saying "no guns", which we...More

The Montana State Capitol in Helena is absolutely beautiful. We're visited in June and saw the senate and old Supreme Court rooms. The house was not open. The interior design of the building was beautiful. Not the largest state Capitol we've visited but set on...More

All capitol buildings are similar, but each is unique. Montana's capitol includes many fine materials and lovely interior detail, as well as a good sense of the history of the state. We were free to wander, including the supreme court, house, and senate galleries even...More

We had a little time before our flight from Helena, and decided to take a look at the State Capital. The Capital building was open to the public, free of course, and very easy to walk though to see the artwork, statues and great architecture.

Enjoyed walking through the Capitol building. There was a guided tour, but we didn't have that much time. The stained glass windows, the very large paintings about Lewis and Clark, and the beautiful rotunda were certainly worth the visit.

The State Capitol is full of interesting artifacts about Montana. The architectural history of the building is quite fascinating. There are sculptures and memorabilia located in different locations. We met quite a few politicians and staff. A good experience overall!

Check the times and avail yourself of a 1 hour free docent led tour of the capital. It is an interesting story indeed of how this building came to be with add ones, remodeling and finally restoration.

The stained glass windows are spectacular and the marble that is everywhere is incredible. The western artwork is fantastic and you really get the old west feel.

You need to go to the capital's website for this info, they do not hold session every year.
