Short and interesting

Fun for a short self tour. Interesting building in a nice small town. Feels very casual as you'd expect of a laid back rural state capital. Well worth a visit.

Montana's State Capitol Building, while suffering around the Millennium, has been restored to its original splendor - and more. While modernized, it retains the original charm. It's well-explained in a self-guided brochure, but the free tour guides (on the hour?) are a wealth of inside info.

The Montana State Capitol worth a visit. The grounds are nice, I really enjoyed the Montana shaped shrubs with Montana written in with vegetation – it’s pretty clever and catches the eye. The Greek neoclassical (I had to be told) dome is copper seems extra fitting in Montana. There’s a female statue on top of the dome. The rotunda is... More

Unlike so many public buildings, the Montana State Capitol has been restored to it's original appearance. Lovely, bright colors, amazing stained glass. Self-guided tours are available. We arrived on a weekday, so there was little tourist activity and as the Legislature was not in session, little professional activity. However, we did take the tour and wished we had more time.... We did a self guided tour, which is easy to do and enjoyable. Met up with a tour guide who had one couple with him.He was extremely rude to me and was an embarassing and uncalled for experience. The building itself is outstanding and well worth seeing.

Our tour guide was very informative. We learned a lot about MT history. The building is beautiful. A must see while in Helena. Don't forget to visit the museum across the street.

We arrived between hourly guided tours so decided to use self guide. Fortunately, we met up with previous tour and was welcomed to the group. The guide was so knowledgeable he made history literally come to life. His background knowledge added so much to the tour. One of the best guides we have ever had the pleasure to listen to... More

We walked around the Capital and enjoyed the green grass and wonderful art on the grounds. Tours are available and the Helena trolly tour leaves from this area.

Coming from a much more populous state, we were shocked that we could simply walk in the door and look around. It was well worth it. This is a beautiful building. House and Senate chambers are locked but you can easily see the art. Well worth the hour spent. On Easter afternoon there is an egg roll on the lawn.... More

Passing through Helena for the first time, we made a small detour to see the State Capitol. Fortunately, a guided tour was just leaving so we joined for an interesting half hour tour of the building and its painting and sculptures. The guide brought us through both chambers as we learned about the history of Montana. The Legislature only meets... More
