We went in late May and sifted through a bag of "concentrate" from the El Dorado Bar. The weather was gorgeous and we enjoyed playing in the rocks. We found a few sapphires, about 5 were big enough to have cut. These aren't high quality stones but they are still pretty and it's something different to do. I've attached a... More

A 20 minute or so drive outside of Helena, Montana will get you to the Spokane Bar Sapphire Mine shop where, for a fee, you'll be able to purchase a sack of sapphire gravel from one of the company's operational mines. Then it's just a matter of taking that bag outside of the shop where there's all that you'll need... More

My son and I had a great day picking through our rocks, we even found several rough sapphirestart and garnets! The staff was friendly and informative about the history of the area and how to effectively go through our rock dig. Will definitely go back!

Second visit to Spokane Bar. Had just as much fun the second time. On this visit we had 2 teen girls, and a senior in our party. Everyone had fun and everyone found a sapphire of cut size and quality from the Spokane bag we bought. We picked up another bag to bring home and screen just for fun. The... More

Took my family out to the "store" at the mine had a great time. The staff is very helpful and instructive. Your equipment is provided, all you do is buy your bag of "dirt" to go through. We all found gems in our bag even my 3 year old. Remember to take sunscreen and a hat as you need the... More

Depending on the time you put in, you can usually walk away with a pretty good bag of goodies! It's exciting to go through raw material to find treasures, but you need to have a large chunk of time to do it right. If you don't have enough time to spend right there, you can pack up your bag of... More

We've visited a couple sapphire mines in Montana and Spokane bar by far had the best gems. We bought the $50 bag and was thrilled with the gems we found with the biggest at over 4 carats. Fun setup, knowledgable staff, and great gift shop.

We spent a few hours at the Spokane Bar Sapphire Mine last Monday and had a lot of fun screening alluvial gravel for sapphires! Crystal was very helpful and showed us what we could find in addition to sapphires, during our screening process. We did find a very nice 6.15 carat blueish sapphire!! in our 1 Mother Lode bag, which... More

Our kids loved searching for jewels in the gravel. They even found some and may order earrings to be made! The employee was very friendly and made them feel welcome. We all have a greater appreciation for the natural beauty and resources this state holds.

What a great way to spend a day We went on the day we were flying home after our trip to Yellowstone. My boyfriend and I have always wanted to do some sort of mining so I found this place only an hour north of the Bozeman airport. When we arrived we were greeted by a very nice guy who... More
