We had a lot of fun here searching for Montana treasures. We went through one bucket of dirt and found several dozen jems. None worth cutting, but it was fun to find them nonetheless. The staff here were very friendly and knowledgeable. They have a lot of neat treasures. Don't buy a diamond, buy a gemstone that is actually rare... More

I have been to Philipsburg a few times but have never stopped here before, and am not sure why. Went with some friends and their young kids. We split a big $50 bag to look for sapphires. The largest I found was 1.25 karats, my friend found one that was 2 karats. The staff was very helpful and even found... More

We were recommended by a friend to stop by this place on our travels, and we're sure glad we did! We bought the $25 "grab bag" of rocks and found all sorts of fun gems, perfect for ourselves and for gifts. We had a blast panning and sorting through it all in their outdoor area, and Doug, the store's clerk,... More

Stumbled upon this neat little town with my family while on a cross country RV trip. We wanted to experience some "gem mining". We had such a great time and our kids (7 and 10) had a blast. Philipsburg is such a quaint place and Montana Gems of Philipsburg is the place to go for a chance to strike it... More

The real surprise is in the shop not the bag of dirt we purchased. Really...Doug is awesome....We purchased a bag of Missouri River pay dirt to screen for sapphires...Found 10 big cut-able sapphires and then Doug re-screened our dirt and found another small and a big 2.55 carat sapphire. What a great find! I used to go to the sapphire... More

Thank you for sharing your great experience! We can't always be here but strive to find outstanding staff that can make your visit memorable, and it sounds like Doug did just that. You should have some beautiful gems when they are finished - we look forward to seeing you again. Anna More

Bought a bag for our 7 year old to explore for gems. She didn't care that it was 50° outside, she was so excited to see what she could find. She found a large amethyst in her first clean. So happy, mainly because it's her birth stone! Recommend this place for sure

We knew we wanted to "mine" for sapphires in Philipsburg. We stopped at the first place we found. We shared a $50 bag on Montana dirt and found a few small gems. It was fun and could get addicting. The staff was friendly and fun and did search through our "trash" piles to see we didn't miss anything. Our "finds"... More

Anna is the best and really helped us to find the most sapphires in our bag of gravel. She also double checked or washes and found additional gems. You could not ask for more. Wash your gravel here and get good sapphires.

I believe we were helped by Anna, I was surprised that once she sold us the bag of gravel that she didn't stop there. Obviously, she knows that even though she explains how to do it, we really don't know how it will look when we see it! So after her initial instructions, she came back and showed us and... More

Nice little shop of rocks and minerals. The sales folks are very friendly. You can also do some sapphire sifting using large buckets of, hopefully, pay dirt.
