Crane Trust Nature & Visitor Center is the public face of the Platte River Whooping Crane Maintenance Trust. We are a nonprofit whose mission is the preservation and restoration of Platte River Valley habitat for whooping cranes, sandhill cranes, and other migratory birds. The Nature & Visitor Center has 10 miles of walking trails, an observation tower, a bison herd, art gallery, gift shop, and informational exhibits about cranes. We also offer tourism information for the state of Nebraska. During the spring crane migration, we offer viewing blind tours to see cranes up close on their river roosts, and driving maps of the area so visitors can see the cranes while they are in the fields feeding.

This Crane Trust Center is one of several dedicated to preserving the Sandhill and Whooping Cranes and their habitats, and providing information, education and services to visitors. And great cinnamon buns to enjoy after a morning observation.

We went on the sunset river blind tour. The blind was very comfortable and right on the edge of the river. You arrive in the blind about one hour before the cranes so that you will not disturb them. It was exciting to see a few come in; then several groups at a time; and then the sky darken with... More

The Crane Trust Nature and Visitor Center is a must-see destination. Greeted at the entrance by the unique sounds of Sandhill cranes, then welcomed inside by warm smiles and knowledgeable staff, this is a home for a special community with a noble mission. One wing of the beautiful building displays stunning photos and paintings and the opposite wing offers popcorn,... More

We watched a beautiful, peaceful sunset while line after line of cranes unfurled across the sky, coming to roost on the river. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable, and we were very happy to have had this opportunity.

We did the morning tour on 3/14 which was great, and the evening tour on 3/16 which was not so great. The leader,Pat, was nothing like the leader on the morning tour. Rather than a expeirence for adults who paid good money to see the cranes, it turned into a 2nd grade filed trip wit a cranky teacher yelling at... More

The Crane Trust center was a great spot to learn about the amazing crane migration each year. Not only did we learn about the cranes, but we saw beautiful paintings and photographs of the experience. We grabbed a bite of lunch there and bought gifts for family before heading out to see the actual cranes in the fields. The work... More

We participated in the Morning Blind Tour at the Crane Trust and also in the VIP Crane Experience. Viewing the cranes from the blinds were similar with both of those options. The VIP Experience was more expensive, but we felt the perks that came with that package made it worth the extra cost. With the VIP experience, you get an... More

The center gave us a great briefing on the cranes at the start of the trip and the knowledgeable guide answered all of our questions. They then escorted us to the blind before sunrise and the location gave us a review of thousands of cranes overnighting on the Platte River. It was a fantastic learning experience.

Amazing to see this many Sand Hill Cranes! Driving from MN to NE I thought we would see many as we approached NE but we didn't they truly remain close to the Platte River in NE.
