We hiked up to the observatory from the college and it was a great little walk (you could drive as well). It was a great diversion from work.

We went to this observatory during our vacation in Nevada. they have free astronomy lectures in addition to star gazing every saturday (the lecture is at 730pm and star gazing led by volunteers after that weather permitting). The volunteers are a wealth of knowledge and the lecture is done by a college professor. All these volunteers bring telescopes and show... More

it is open to the public on Saturday nights. The astronomy professor and club members love sharing the telescopes and talking about the cosmos. Their enthusiasm and vast knowledge is infectious.

This place is great for a small town observatory. There's a very active star-gazing community in Carson City and the college hosts a regular weekly speaker at the observatory. The lectures are interactive and very interesting and, usually, pertinent to some current event. Kudos!
