We walked Echo Lakes on a bright and sunny, early November day. Apparently it gets crowded in the summer, but on the day we visited, we only met a few other people and pooches on the trail. In the summer, there is a water taxi available as well as the Echo Lakes Chalet, where one can acquire provisions. Beautiful and... More

After sitting in construction traffic attempting to get to Emerald Bay, we decided to head the opposite way to Echo Lakes trail. It was a crazy drive, hairpin turns, narrow roads, but led to a parking lot with restrooms and access to the Echo Lake trailhead and hydroelectric station. Trail was well marked, easy hiking along the lake-private, quiet, and... More

We decided to take the water taxi to upper lake and hike back to the chalet. It was a very nice and not difficult hike, with beautiful views of the lake along the way. There is some shade, especially in the beginning, but considerable exposure as you get further down the trail. As the trail descends near the dam, there... More

Road is steep and narrow so cars have to pass slowly. Google maps told me I had arrived about a mile too early. You need to proceed up the hill, to right of Snow Park, then another mile past tent style cabins, then downhill until you see the lake below. There is parking at bottom by chalet which is reserved... Unfortunately we drove there on a Sunday arriving about 10:30am to find that there was no parking available. We drove up and down the narrow road and through the parking lots twice, with no luck. We left in frustration and drove back to South Lake Tahoe for a nice hike near town. Get there early!!!!!

I love, love, love this trail. My husband and I hiked everyday for an entire week in Lake Tahoe and we came back to this trail for a second time. The first time we went to the taxi area and back. It is 5 miles round trip and quite easy. Minimal elevation just rough rocky terrain so you need to... More

This is a great family trail high above Lake Tahoe. Easiest way to visit Aloha Lake is via water taxi from Echo Bay.... $14/person each way. The boat ride is fun and is a relaxing end to a beautiful hike.

I've enjoyed hiking here several times. The nice thing is that if you bite off a bit longer hike than you can 'chew', you can plan on taking the boat ride back. We brought our daughter, her hubby and their two kids, and we did just that. Had a nice picnic at Tamarack Lake, then caught the boat coming back.... More

We came here for spring break and went snowshoeing on the Ridge Loop. The views are breathtaking! It's a great place to ski too, many of the people there were on skis. Definitely recommend.

I fell like I have been on some pretty nice hikes, been to some beautiful places, but this was awesome. Starting at a checkin for the PCT was cool enough anyway. See hikers on all different legs of their journey. The trail itself is great. With the lakes to your left littered with gorgeous homes built by boat. The rock... More
