Mackay was one of the richest mine owners during Virginia City's boom times. The tour of his mansion is short but worth the time and money (it's not that much--I think it was about $5 per person). It's fascinating to see such luxury in a frontier mining town from the 19th Century and to compare that lifestyle with the hard... More

This is a great place to tour and look at. We were able to look around on our own and take pictures.

Toured with Dawn who gave us a comprehensive history of the house that was owned by the richest people in the late 1800's and 1900s in the town. The house is filled with the actual furniture or period furniture of the era. The bannister is an awesome piece of curved carved wood. The second floor is self tour and has... More

Thank you so much Dawn for a fabulous day and informational history. The tour was self guided to take as long as you wanted. Pictures were encouraged, a d a bit of helpful info...take them in 3s....same photo, 3xs. That way you see if you get orbs or faces or ghostly figures in your pictures. Though I didn't get anything... More

When you stop by Virginia City you must take a tour of the Mackey Mansion. Our tour guide was Nick and he had a lot of great stories and he shared many very interesting historical facts. The mansion was like stepping back in time. It had all the rooms beautifully furnished with original home furnishings of the 1800s. It was... More

Step inside to see how the upper crust lived In the late 1800's. This museum showcases a rich history of the past. The grounds will also host weddings, reunions, holiday parties.

It sure was interesting to see and then to find out it was built by William Randolph Hearst's father made it even more interesting. The guide was delightful and knowledgeable.
