The heart of downtown, where several walking tours begin, Market Square is a center of activity with art galleries, bookstores, antique shops, ethnic restaurants and many original 17th-century buildings.

Basically the center of all activity within town. All restaurants shops theatre parks within walking distance. For people visiting a great view of the towns colonial architecture in a seaport small city.

We live close to Portsmouth and visit often. It's a lovely city with plenty of unique shops and great restaurants. It's sits on the harbour so you can view working fishing boats coming & going. I highly recommend spending an afternoon walking around.

One of my favorite places to walk around. Loaded with small shops and top restaurants from fine dining to bar food. Bring your walking shoes, there is a lot to see and walking is best way to get around

Portsmouth and her old building by the bay provided even more than we expected. It was a fun place to visit with the educational opportunity a true bonus.

Love going here. During the day it is busy with families, couples, college students and business people. During the night it transforms into a great place to have dinner and some drinks. Always safe and clean.

A nice small historic downtown with my shops, restaurants and bars. I found this downtown to be more interesting than Portland, Maine. Do stop into Portsmouth downtown and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Portsmouths downtown strip. Interesting shops, at least one brewery, an inn that used to be a brewery, cool shopping that is both hip and hippie. We went down and under to Harpoon Willies for a beer by the river. We wandered through the hat shop,...More

There's a wonderful sea water beach ar New Castle Common. There's a large playground, well manicured lawn with trees then a beach & water but also rocks to climb and explore.

Coffee places open at 7 am during week, 7:30 on Sunday. Stores usually open by 10 am, or earlier. So have a cup and a goodie, sit and enjoy the square, and watch the people. More to life than shopping.
