In the past we have had issues of losing our way at this park. They now have clearer markings frequently on trees to show the color of the trail you want. We did the red trail which is 2.1 miles, a nice distance. It was muddy in spots this week due to a lot of recent rain but I'm sure... More

The visitor’s center has several different nature displays and a nature library. There was also a display or local artists/photographers. Helpful staff available to help identify the different birds that visitors photograph. They also list the wildlife spotted. Lots of peaceful walking trails. Easy to get lost in nature. Caution – most of the trails are natural trails thru the... More

This 950-acre Park is named after William Alexander Stirling – a General of the American Revolution, and is operated by the Somerset County Parks Commission. We have come here several times before, and this time came during the President’s Day Weekend with some family members for whom it was the first time. Unfortunately, the Education Center was closed, so we... More

Nice way to spend time outdoors any time of the year. We hiked, but have also cross country skied there. Nature center is nice too.

The Environmental Center at Lord Stirling park is one of several nature and education facilities that border on and are part of The Great Swamp federal wildlife park. The center main building has fun exhibits that change all the time and occasional special events. It is worth taking a look inside-- you can learn a lot about the wildlife by... More

Lord Stirling Park is named for William Alexander, Lord Stirling, a general in the Revolutionary War, whose estate included this area. It is situated on a portion of the former Glacial Lake Passaic, which covered the area about 15,000 years ago. As a result, the entire area of the park is nearly level. Sections of the trails can be very... More

This is a great place to visit -- there is always something good on display. We did a canoe safety class there and love the walks in the woods. In the winter, the paths are perfect for snow shoeing! We also like to kayak from there. So lucky to have the Center in our town!

This county-operated center has wonderful walking trails, a great staff and terrific programs. I've had the best times on the kayaking trips over the years.
