Also called the Deserted Village although people still live in it! A collection of houses and other buildings that used to be a mill town, then a resort area. Remarkably accessible for being in the middle of the woods- road into village is well paved, road to houses pretty well paved. There were a few things that could be reached... More

The other day my wife and I decided to check out The Deserted Village of Feltville located within the Watchung Reservation. It was so hot and humid we had to cut our visit short and only got to see the Church/Store Building and do the short hike to the Cemetery. We enjoy investigating Revolutionary Era sites and what we saw... More

When in town, whether Berkeley heights, new providence, mountain side, or anywhere in area...I highly recommend coming here, weather permitting. A great hike throughout watchung reservation, and then you have this " deserted " village ...as advertised. Wonder off the beaten path and discover revolution dated grave sites and bits of history that seems like a bonus story to a... More

A run through Feltville is a run through history. Park at Cataract and either walk or run down the street to see the historic places.

The walks throughout the Deserted Village are historically interesting and have diverse settings. There is an archeology area, paths in the woods, buildings to tour. The hill back to parking is steep so it is not for the weak.

After visiting the Trailside Center many times over the years, Feltville was an unexpected pleasure to find & it’s even better to know it’s within a short drive of my home so I can hopefully go back often and even experience the leaves changing color. You do need to watch closely for the Cataract Hollow/Watchung Reservation sign by the side... More

If you're a hiker or explorer and live in the area, this might be a pleasant diversion for you. Unfortunately, despite the interesting history the walking through the Watchung reservation. There are a couple of very small lakes (Lake Surprise being the larger one in the are) close by as well. On the right kind of day you could spend... More

"The Forgotten Village" or "The Hidden Village" was a small manufacturing village, about 100-125 years old, which is now in a Union County park reservation. In recent years, the surviving buildings have been or are being restored. It's a pleasant flashback, nothing dramatic, and more of a local attraction rather than something you'd make a destination, but it's in some... More

I love all things deserted, so when I saw "Deserted Village" I knew I had to go! It's not as abandoned as I had hoped, but is still quite neat to walk through. There's a walking path that provides a quick trip into the woods. There's not a ton here to see, but if you're about to head out on... More

Feltville Historic District is located in Berkeley Heights section of the 2,000 acre Watchung Reservation. It's often called the Deserted Village which gives it a Weird New Jersey aura. Actually the village has a long and complex history which dates back to pre-Revolutionary War Era. Peter Wilcox an Englishman came to the area from Long Island in 1736 and operated... More
