What a wonderful natural resource for the Sussex County, NJ/Orange County, NY area. Sandhill cranes are becoming a regular sight here, as well as herons, egrets, and all kinds of waterfowl. The Liberty Loop Trail is wonderful, as is the trail through Owens Station. There are other trails as well.

This is a great place to take a nice relaxing low impact walk in nature. There is plenty to see with lots of wildlife and plants.

Extensive, picturesque trails. Friendly staff conducting frequent walks. Membership is inexpensive and emails notify members of events. Highly recommend.

Serenity! Nothing but natural beauty. Hiking trails are many and varied. It was such a pleasure to walk through meadows and forests listening only to the sounds of Nature. The Ranger staff was very informative and helpful. A beautiful, unspoiled expanse of land you will re-visit often.

In the springtime see the Bobolinks. Those are birds of course. A few nice walking paths that are not strenuous.

This is a nice place to visit during spring songbird migration (late April to mid/late May). However, watch carefully for ticks. There are several trails, or do the entire loop. Bluebirds, warblers, orioles, sparrows abound during migration.

I have been visiting the WRNWR since it was created. It has been a joy to watch it grow, and to see the positive environmental impact it has had on my adopted county. If you love to kayak, fish, hike, birdwatch, or just sit and enjoy a lakeside view, there's a spot for you in the WRNWR. I come here for nature photography, and I have also attended talks at the refuge headquarters.
