Just 10 km outside Jeffreys Bay and 70 km from Port Elizabeth, between the Gamtoos and Kabeljous rivers, lies the farm Papiesfontein. Here, on this special piece of land, the unique combination of bush, river and beach come together to offer you an unforgettable ride. Experienced guides escort riders twice daily along the 13km circular route. The trail takes about two hours to complete, leading through beautiful fynbos coastal vegetation, towards the Gamtoos river with breathtaking views from the dunes and finally returning along a 6 km stretch of deserted beach. Here on this isolated beach, riders can canter their mounts in the shallows or have an exhilarating gallop on the sand. The trail provides magnificent views of the area and affords ample opportunity to spot a variety of bird species, tortoises, bushbuck, plant and marine life. Imagine whale watching from horseback!

Fantastic landscape, good horses, nice guide. However, we were to ride at 6 30 am. It was a beautiful morning, but the gate at the road was locked. We called the number we had several times and at 6 40 a man answered. "We have no rides at 6 30 am outside high season" was the answer. Well, I had... More

Had a blast on the beach! My first horse was a bit lazy so swopped for one of the greener horses, which made the ride so much fun. Galloping n the beach is always an amazing feeling. Being a professional horse rider and trainer myself, I can definitely say that their horse are well trained, well looked after and safe... More

Overall it was a beautiful trip. The sunset beach horse ride was so romantic. But, the ride itself was not very safe. My horse kept wanting to wonder off road, causing the guide to shout at it and give it a smack every now and again so that it would listen. My fiance's horse had a very bad temper and... More

What a pleasant experience. Horses are well cared for, staff are friendly and the location is mind blowing beautiful. its almost worth just sitting watching the view, but once you get on the horse, follow the bush path for aprox 4km, you climb a dune and WOW... be prepared to be even more mind blown. It was the best out... More

If you are looking for a unique experience in a beautiful Setting this is the one Thing you have to do in Jeffrey's Bay. Whilst my boyfriend is a professional in Terms of horses, I've never been on a horse before. From that perspective the health and safety precautions weren't that great as I basically spent two hours fearing for... More

My horse ride at Papiesfontein was definitely one of the best. The route and views are absolutely amazing and the guides are friendly. The horses are well trained and seem to be very well looked after. A great overall experience that I would definitely recommend to others.
