We inevitably wanted to route via Franschhoek Pass on our way from Hermanus to Stellenbosch. Having been shocked at the low water levels at Theewaterskloof dam, it was a relief to crest the top of the pass and see the valley and the town below...More

If you have a car, it will probably to you 5 minutes to get to the pass. The trip is short and beautiful. For me, it’s the number one thing to do when in the valley. The trick is to stop at the viewpoints going...More

It is a very scenic mountain road up from Franschhoek and there are a numbers of spots where you can stop and enjoy the spectacular landscape and scenery. Fantastic for photographers. A must do when you are in the area.

Enjoy the drive as the roads are great, but be careful to concentrate fully when confronted with the spectacular views.

Found this mountain pass road into Franschhoek pretty scary, especially on the last hairpin bends, but then I have no head for heights. We came in from Hermanus side, the drive out towards Capetown is much gentler.

A fabulous alternative way back to Cape Town. Well worth the extra time taken. Stunning vistas in this beautiful pass.

After driving the garden route in overcast weather, the skies cleared just in time for the views into Franschhoek from this beautiful pass. Drive slowly along the winding roads and enjoy the breathtaking scenery and keep an eye out for baboons too!
