This historic estate was originally part of the great La Provence farm

given to French Huguenot farmers in 1694. Over the years the property was divided and the portion which is now Rickety Bridge was granted to Paulina De Villiers,

one of the first female land owners in South Africa, in 1797.

In the late 1980's the estate became known as Rickety Bridge due

to the old railway sleeper bridge which crossed the Franschhoek River

and provided the entry point to the estate. The rickety bridge was replaced in 1996 and the new bridge provides a safe crossing over the river.

Today, Rickety Bridge is a stately Franschhoek winery which has gone from strength to strength in recent years and the memory and pioneering spirit of Paulina De Villiers is celebrated by the flagship range of wines, Paulina's Reserve. These distinctive wines, as well as the renowned Rickety Bridge classic range and the Foundation Stone Range, have received many accolades and high praise in recent years.

Very busy but still enjoyable

This winery was very busy for tastings, due partly no doubt to the wine tram. However, the service was still good, the views nice and the wine very good.

Enjoyed a latish lunch on a beautiful day when the main rush was over. As ever, the food was delicious and accompanied by perfectly matched Rickety Bridge wines. The menu provides a multiple choice of small and large portions according to each diners appetite. There is something on the menu for everyone. The view is lovely and the service is... More

I have been to Ricket Bridge a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed the wine tasting experience and restaurant. However, this weekend I went with my son and there was only a verbal menu for the kids - then they didn't have what they were meant to have so they improvised and provided a very adult dish which was overwhelming... Stop over on the Franschoek Tram and have lunch. Interesting menu. Good wines to pair with food. Excellent service. Great cuisine with equally great vistas

Had waited 7 years to return here and were not disappointed. Stopped for lunch first of all. Even though they were busy with tour groups the waiter Thomas got us a table on the terrace. He was a superb waiter and a credit to the restaurant. Views are great and the food was fantastic. The amazing Chardonnay with lunch did... More

We had our year end function there and were spoiled rotten. Great food and wine and lots of fun and laughter. The staff were super friendly and the day was enjoyed by everyone

We visited this winery as part of the wine tram tour. The staff were friendly and knowledgable. The staff member showed us the wines and although he suggested that a particular wine was for younger people we liked it so bought some! Yes people over 50 do like wines that perhaps are meant for younger people. We really could not... More

We caught up with family we hadn't seen in years for lunch at Rickety Bridge wine farm. Our Zimbabwean waiter, Michael, was an absolute gem, and would be an asset to any restaurant. My wife and I had the most succulent pork belly and our guests both had the fillet steak with mushroom sauce. All of the food was prepared... More

Great place for a wine tasting, cozy and comfortable. Four wine glasses for just R 15. If you are doing the wine tour, it is the first stop of the tram.

Not too much to expect if you already had been the experience of wine tasting . Pinotage grape was new to me Bordeaux blends and wine convinations were exellents, showing me the expert people in charge of this work. You can add to your tour, returning to Capetown, a visit to Boulders to see the African Pinguins
