Socially responsible tourist destination where visitors are introduced to the team that makes functional art out of recycled tea bags that are sent to us from far (all over the world) and near!! The tour is free, tea is available (of course)and we have a shop on site. Our heart warming story will make your day.

We have bought items from the Waterfront store a couple of times but after chatting to the lovely shop assistant we decided to visit the workshop on our trip to Hout Bay and I am so glad we did. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and given tea and coffee while watching a very interesting DVD about how the company... More

For 17 years people from the nearby township have made beautiful items from discarded tea bags -- ornaments, lacquered trays, candle holders, stationery, and much more. This location is special because they give tours and show visitors the workshop. Items can also be purchased at the Waterfront shop, but we would recommend the trip to Hout Bay to meet the... More

Just down the road from Imizamo Yethu settlement Original T Bag Designs is a great end to the settlement tour. The women working there are wonderful, enthusiastic and pleased to have a chance to earn money to support their families or learn skills that may lead to other work. If you have time they will show you a dvd about... More

This craft workshop was founded to help men and women of the Hout Bay area earn a living and improve the quality of life for themselves and their children. The participants found much, much more. They produce beautiful handmade items using recycled T-bags...you have to see them to appreciate it. Inspiring.

When a trip was recommended to me I couldn't imagine how it could be of much interest. I nearly didn't get off the open-top bus (blue route) as I was a bit tired after visiting Kirstenbosch - but I'm so glad I did! It is a truly inspirational venue, the people working there are so happy and pleased to show... More

Visited the shop at V&A last year and this year was determined to visit the workshop at Hout Bay, It was easy to get to using the City Sightseeing Bus ( Blue Tour) and our visit did not disappoint. Wonderful place, beautiful gifts and an inspiring initiative!

My husband and I were very lucky to be brought to the Original T-Bag shop by our tour guide. Prior to arriving to Jill Heyes' (owner) wonderful shop we were asked the question - 'What do you think one does with recycled tea bags'. We came up with all type of crazy ideas which made our tour guide laugh until... More

This is a cute shop with lots of great decor/gift options. The real start of this shop is the story behind how it got started. I highly recommend a visit to the original shop to get the full details how this place got started (or you can check them out online). There is a smaller shop at the V&A Waterfront... More
