Vergelegen - no ordinary Estate.

Founded on 1 February 1700, Vergelegen (meaning "situated far away"), has been under the ownership of some of the world's great explorers and visionaries, each of whom, in their own way, have helped shape Vergelegen to what it is today: a world-class Estate.

With its world renowned handcrafted wines, history spanning over 300 years, heritage, exquisite gardens and refined cuisine, it comes as no surprise that Vergelegen continues to be the choice of the discerning visitor seeking a total sensory experience. For this reason, the Estate has borne witness to many visits of heads of state and celebrities from all over the world.

Think of Vergelegen to spend quality time on your own, with your family and friends or business associates - wine tasting centre and cellar tours, Camphors at Vergelegen Signature Restaurant, Stables at Vergelegen Bistro Restaurant and the Picnic, are only a few of a myriad of enjoyable activities at Vergelegen.

We invite you to experience the world of Vergelegen first-hand.

All we can do is reinforce the many positive reviews and urge everyone who is anywhere near to visit this stunning historic Vineyard Homestead which is kept immaculately and has at least one superb restaurant. We particularly enjoyed the house, the rose garden and the library. The Stables Restaurant was heavily booked, but we were given an outdoor sofa table... More

Being a resident of Cape Town I've visited many wine estates over the years but they're usually in Stellenbosch, Paarl or Franschoek. A recent Google search of wine estates in Somerset West led me to discover a real gem called Vergelegen. This estate which produces several award winning wines has a rich history dating back to Simon v/d Stel and... More

After having paid R10 to be let in and receiving a map the tour could begin. Very beautiful gardens and surrounding. I'm surprised, though, that there was no actual wine shop.

Vergelegen wine estate is truly beautiful, visit the museum, the rose gardens, herb gardens and of course the amazing camphor trees. Once you have done all that it time to wine taste and have some delicious food. Enjoy

Always a treat! Beautiful gardens, historic buildings - loads to see! Entrance fee is a small R10. We had a picnic (reserve well in advance!) under the camphor trees, very romantic. Great food and service!

We had been recommended to visit this winery and it lived up to all expectations. The gardens were beautiful and we spent time just browsing round the gardens. We had lunch in the stables restaurant which was very inexpensive and delicious. We had wanted to have a picnic but they had a major event in the evening so that was... More
