This is more than you usual cooking school. Chef Dean and his staff not only did a great job in teaching how to cook Balinese dishes but set it in an historical context. There was a good discussion of all the different spices, how they are used and where they come from. Also some discussion of their history in Asia... More

Whilst Staying locally in Seminyak I did Chef Deans Cooking class and Spice Tour.It was a fantatstic class and the tour of the markets was very interesting. Had a morning visit to the local markets which was very interesting and informative then back to the Spicery Deli and Bistro for a very informative interesting cooking class. Chef Dean provided an... We chose Deans cookery school because of the reviews and handy location. We were not disappointed. Dean was expert in Balinese cuisine and culture and his team were excellent and make you feel at home. The hands on part of the day was the best but it was enjoyable throughout. The kitchen/cafe is very new, beautifully set out and the... More

It was just a wonderful day from start to finish couldn't fault anything. Very friendly atmosphere, Dean and his team had thought of everything to make the cooking class worth of 5 stars. I loved hearing the history of the spices. The food at the end of the day was more than plenty full and so delicious.

Excellent Cooking class today, such an incredible day & experience. From taking us to the Local Markets to returning to the Restaurant & learning to cook the most wonderful Balinese curry pastes was a truly amazing day and so worth doing in your trip to Seminyak, Bali.

We had a wonderful day! First went to the Denpasar markets to see all the meats, fruits and spices... then back to the amazing Spicery deli in Seminyak Square where Dean showed us so many different recipes. Taught us about spices and where they came from. I learnt to fillet a fish, and chop chicken. The day was full of... More

The most amazing experience and so interesting with a very detailed history lesson around spices and the Balinese. Chef Dean and his team were fantastic and really looked after us. The food, good coffee!! And of course the many cocktails. It was a true experience. Additional discovery of the day was Cape Discovery Sav Blanc! Real wine with the taste... More

We started the day with the market tour in Denpasar. It was interesting to see it as we wouldn't have been there by ourselves. Then we came back to Dean's new restaurant where we had our cooking class - we had a blast! Dean introduced us to the different species and then we had some snacks with the sauces that... More

We were the first group to cook out of the new Seminyak kitchen. Fantastic venue, great setup and wonderful class, so professional. Dean was a terrific host/teacher. The whole experience was second to one. Some great history on the Indonesia spices, a visit to the market and the food was delicious. A feast of a banquet not to mention the... More
