About
The USS Liberty Wreck is the most famous dive site in Bali. It is also one of the best sunken ship wrecks in the world! If you come to Bali, you absolutely have to dive there The liberty ship was hit by a Japanese torpedo then was beached near Tulamben. In 1963, the eruption of Mount Agung caused the vessel to slip off the beach, and it now lies on a sand slope in 9 to 30 m of water. The wreck is about 130 m long with the shallowest part at about 5 m deep and the deepest on the other side of the wreck at about 30 m deep.

I was staying in Amed, mainly to dive the USS Liberty Shipwreck. I booked a tour with Bali Dive Center and the day started early. I am so glad I stayed in Amed and not other cities in Bali as I was done with my two tank dive and back in Amed around 10am. Meanwhile others get back in the evening. So I recommend staying the night near the site. The dive site itself was an adventure. I'd say it was an easy dive. The first dive, we went around the ship and the second dive we had opportunities to go within the ship. The marine life was awesome, especially the garden eels, I've yet to see them that size. I saw a huge grouper as well. Overall, the dive was incredible and highly recommended.

Great dive spots, both at the shipwreck and the surrounding area. Had guidance from Lunar dive, and they were very accommodating.

Spectacular- easy dive, beach dive 100 feet from beach. Wreck is sitting parallel to the beach, with shallow (stern) on one side and deeper (bow) at other end. Great dive for new divers and advanced. Teeming with fish. Wreck has been there since 60s, so almost looks like a coral reef. Small reef just off the beach, then some sand, then the wreck. We started on shallow stern and then swam around towards now a bit deeper, swam thru cargo hold and came back around, back towards stern and then back to the beach. We had a group of 6, some more experienced than others and 1 new diver doing a resort (learn to dive) class. We all dove together. We used Two Fish Divers. Joe was great and our other dive master as well. And my wife was able to snorkel above us, she doesn’t dive, but was able to follow us the entire dive from above. And she was only 100 feet off the beach. This was my 40th dive and one of the best.

Good snorkelling over the liberty ship wreck. Close to shore (about 80-100m from beach) . It’s quite deep but you can still see lots of variety of fish and coral on the wreck. Go in the morning before the current gets strong and a sunny day is best. About a 30 min drive from Amed.

I did 3 dives just at this Shipwreck incl early morning, night dives and day time dives. I think the best is the early morning dive, while it is so quiet and not many divers around. I felt like experience both night dive and day time dive at one time when the sun rises and you got to see the first lights through the water. It was unforgettable moment. The wreck might be worn out a bit but it was still very impressive, with very diversed marine life around the wreck. I urge you to experience it by yourself.

A really beautiful dive with an abundance of sea life. Loved the patch of garden eels nearby. The wreck is just off the beach, so the surface interval was done at the restaurant nearby, with a yummy lunch included. I recommend staying nearby, as I was staying in Canggu and the drive was 2 1/2 hours there and almost 4 hours back due to traffic and rain.

Went there several times and although it doesn't look like a ship mostly, it became a nice reef and has a huge variety of creatures living there.
A night dive at the wreck is really impressive, if you have the chance to do one, go for it!
