Of course no comparison with European pilgrimage churches but nevertheless worth seeing. We were there very early and had a nice peaceful and quiet experience. It's on the way from Santa Fe to Taos and is worth the little stop.

We arrived late after the gift shop had closed but the employee there said we were welcome inside the church. It is a place of healing and many come here for that purpose. The interior of the church is quite simple but very beautiful. There...More

This is such a beautiful old church and we so enjoy coming here for peaceful prayer. It can get crowded at times, so if your looking for quiet time, don't come @ peak times. The gardens are beautiful so take your time to enjoy.

The chapels were lovely and well worth the drive to see. They have plans to expand the complex and add more things to do there. It is a very reverent place.

This place has become very commercialized since the last time I visited years ago. That's just fine, as the reason for coming here will always be the same. Very tranquil place. Truly blessed to be able to go.

My husband and I are both practicing Catholics and I have always wanted to see the place. That being said, I do not think you need to be Catholic to appreciate the peace and serenity that both of us felt on our visit. We took...More

You won't likely stay long, but the chapel is so very beautiful and unlike grander churches and cathedrals. Lovely!

El Santuario de Chimayo compound is a peaceful respite for persons of all faiths. As one walks through the grounds, one immediately notices hundreds of crucifixes and photos of loved ones left by pilgrims seeking solace for suffering or offering thanks for redemption. The sight...More

Not sure as i'm not a local. Suggest you call Sacred Heart or Santuario and ask about local transportation for Good Friday service.

We visited as tourists and are not Catholic, but I can tell you it is a very moving and beautiful place no matter what religion you practice.
