We visited Bisti on a perfect day (upper 50s, sun, calm) in early November. The turn off route 371, some 36 miles south of Farmington, is well marked. The gravel road from there to the parking lot is fine and the distance short, maybe a...More

I have been travelling for months in the Southwest. This site is the most scenic I ever saw ! But there is a price: you need to prepare your visit with Google Earth and record your hike in your GPS. Otherwise you could be lost...More

Incredible eroded formations abound within less than a mile from the parking lot (make sure you check carefully). However, there are no facilities, not even a trash barrel. I discovered a couple spots where less responsible visitors left disgusting evidence of their carelessness along the...More

Anyone who didn't like this place didn't venture out enough. Although there isn't much of a trail, as long as you track where you're going, you should be fine. Just mark your parking lot on a phone with GPS navigation. We navigated a loop starting...More

a must when one is around there - great place for walks - photography - silence - get there early morning or later afternoon.

I have been to this location a couple of times now. It is very secluded, located Southwest of Farmington, NM. You have to use your car's odometer as you come down NM 371 or you could easily miss the turn to the site. I recommend...More

Interesting area. We parked in the main parking area and headed toward the red hills. We wandered around for about 5 miles total and several hours discovering many interesting formations. We had found some GPS locations in advance and put them in a map so...More

We love the Bisti Badlands! There are hardly any people there and the lack of trails makes it fun to find formations. It's so peaceful and quiet when you hike out a bit. About a mile and a half from the parking lot almost due...More

Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness Hoodoos are Interesting. We had good driving and hiking instructions which were essential. It is quiet. No trails exist. The road is maintained to the parking lot.

This is one of those places you don't want to miss regardless of weather. The road from Farmington is paved & the short section after that should be well taken care of.

You may also try searching for a photography tour. My trip was part of one but they only do 1 or 2 tours a year there.

It's a hot, dry area with some hard walking so water up. More is better in this place. I would consider keeping the dog on a leash due to the snakes and terrain.
