They put together a Dawson Exhibit for the reunion and we're so impressed with the new museum. I just wish they'd have had more pictures of people--we've all seen the pictures of the buildings and they're just not as interesting or why we travel for the reunion. Beautiful building and the curator was an excellent resource for information. We'll be... More

It was during posted business hours, so we went in. Turns out that they were rearranging and repainting but the curator allowed us to walk around the available exhibits. A great collection of large (at least 4 by 12 foot) panorama photos from the early 1900s. I especially found the photo of the automobile group driving 370 miles from Raton... More

Very nice local museum. Large historical building in the middle of town. Tons of old photos and local memorabilia. The curator is in his 70's and grew up here, so he kinda knows what he's talking about if you have questions. This is worth visiting.

The Raton Museum is not only an opportunity for history in a local environment but demonstrates a commitment to art and humanities in rural areas.

We were given a lecture on Raton and it was very informative. A man that really had his facts straight. There was also another room upstairs that we did not see.

This is a great museum to see and understand the mining and railroad industry of Raton, Dawson, NM and the surrounding area. The curator is extremely knowledgable and eager to help.

The building is very spacious, the staff was very friendly. It's more of a display of old stuff without a lot of explanation, likely the ace is under funded. Downtown Raton has seen better days and this museum is a good start for the rebirth.

This museum is a real treasure. It's in a huge former department store - and the curator has gone above and beyond the typical small town museum. We spent an hour there and he shared wonderful stories about fabulous items - a bank safe that had a time clock in it-- very unusual -- miner's lamps that could NOT start... More
