My introduction to Bitter Lake was the very well equipped Visitor Center that has a deck that overlooks the entire refuge. There is also a very nice nature trail to the side of the Visitor Center where butterflies were darting all around the blooming plants....More

I stopped by briefly on my way to Albuquerque, and wish I had allotted more time for thoroughly exploring the refuge. Clearly a respite for birds and it was also pleasant and quiet for humans. It was fun to see so many Scaled Quail, swallows,...More

We arrived at 4:06 and the visiter center closes at 4:00. The ranger did give us a map and said feel free to drive around the refuge. We found black-legged stilts, white faced ibis, snowny egrets, American coots, and many others

This is a quiet, relaxing view of the desert and a great place to watch birds migrate. My wife and I go on occasion just to quietly watch the birds come in in the fall. It's a must if you want a quiet getaway.

This park is a great place to see all sorts of water birds: ducks, geese, shorebirds, cranes, etc. There is a nice visitor center at the north end, and pit toilets at the south end where there are also some walking trails,

We only went to Bitter Lake so I can't compare. We went about an hour before sunset and there were LOTS of birds. Pretty drive around the area.
