Formed in 1923 by Lucy Harwood and several members of the Taos Society of Artists, the Harwood Museum of Art is the second oldest museum in New Mexico. The museum has been affiliated with the University of New Mexico since 1935, and it now boasts the internationally acclaimed Agnes Martin Gallery, galleries exhibiting highlights from the museum's collection of work by the Taos Society of Artists, Taos Moderns, Hispanic Traditions, and contemporary artists working in Taos, and changing exhibitions fulfilling the Harwood's vision to "Bring Taos Arts to the World and World Arts to Taos."

we went for a special exhibit that opened may 22 and it was interesting. it used most of the museum space, so make sure the exhibit is something you're interested in before you go. sundays are free.

A small art museum with a mixture of things to see. Very small bookshop area and no cafe. The best thing of all about this museum is the octagonal gallery containing Agnes Martin's paintings, and this one gallery makes it a worthwhile visit.

Truly a wonderful museum of New Mexico's best. Awesome displays. Congenial staff. A must stop for every visitor to Taos.

This stop was top on my list of our recent visit to Taos and the only disappointing thing was limited access to the second floor. The works displayed were very diverse and quietly displayed for a very enjoyable visit.

A small museum with an incredibly diverse collection. Many of the artworks are quite modern and all of them give you something to ponder.

This gem, now a UNM property, was a foundation created in the 1920s for artists. Its exhibit of Taos Modernists, esp. Germans such as Gustave Baumann, is great. Peerless is room esp. built for 9 Agnes Martin paintings the artist donated.

A good portion of the museum was closed to mount a new exhibit when we visited, so we appreciated being offered a reduced admission fee. The museum has a good collection of Taos artists and is definitely worth a visit.

Excellent selection of historic Taos painters' works in an historic building. Also included modern art, New Mexican tinware , and Spanish wood santos. Good selection of books and art in the gift shop.
