Pleasant getaway from the congestion, noise and traffic of the city. Beautiful river views and nice hikes. Cafeteria food is a bit pricey, as is to be expected, but offers good hot entrees. Free shuttle available to/from the Metro-North station, but please tip your driver!

In Riverdale on Hudson with great views, this historic garden has great plantings and several historic buildings with nice displays. A number of historic figures have lived on this site

I went there with my family just out of curiosity, and was simply stunned by that place. The landscapes, the views over the Hudson River, the layout - be-a-u-ti-ful. Most importantly, this is a fairly compact grounds, so you can go there with little kids without reservations for the length of your walk. They have an [obnoxiously overpriced] cafe there... More

The kennedy's had a house very near and wave hill actually was once the beautiful residence of my favourite philosopher and author, Mark Twain aka samuel clemens. There are lovely places to walk on offer with wisteria covered passages and a small pond with blooms abounding. Birders will love this garden. Definitely do a tour to find out the fascinating... Fascinating gardens and green houses, tremendous history of conservationist history and beloved guests. I first went there to see about the famous Beech trees ... I was somewhat prouder that my own Beech is incredibly larger than theirs, being about 400 years old. Passing kids have called mine the "Winnie-the-Poo" tree....still, I only have one they have many of these... More

This beautiful garden nestled in the hills of New York City is a beautiful hidden gem. Smaller than Central Park and actually in the Bronx - you would think that you were in the country side. The children will love exploring the area and you can have a leisurely stroll. Highly recommend it!

Wave hill is one of the most beautiful places in NYC. On top of that, the Sunday kids programs are fantastic. The summer concerts are lovely. This is one of my most favorite places. The cafe has great coffee and snacks too.
