Apple Pond Farm and Renewable Energy Education Center is an Organic Farm in...

Apple Pond Farm and Renewable Energy Education Center is an Organic Farm in the Catskills - a 2 hour drive from NYC.

95% of the farm's power is derived from sustainable solar thermal, solar electric and wind energies.

We grow vegetables and raise sheep, goats, chickens, horses, turkeys, and a lovely donkey named Arlow. A bunch of cats and dogs also call Apple Pond Farm home.

We offer tours, workshops, programs geared to both children and adults in farming, homesteading, and energy efficiency and sustainability.

Here is a look at our 2016 schedule, as well as by request classes that we offer:

1 hour reserved in advance and scheduled at your convenience. Minimum tour $50 for 5 people. Each additional person $8. (Except as noted in Farming With Kids below).

EDUCATIONAL FARM TOURS: Milk a dairy goat, collect eggs, feed chickens, goats and sheep, visit the turkeys, lambs, horses, inspect organic gardens and orchards. Overview of Renewable Energy systems.

Seasonal Variability

FARMING WITH KIDS: Much like our farm tours, Farming with Kids allows participants to actually perform farm chores and have a great time. Available every Saturday May - October and additional Fridays in July and August. Starts promptly at 10am. Adults- $8, Children - $6. No reservation required.

RENEWABLE ENERGY TOURS: Learn about our solar systems that provide over 95% of the farm’s power. You will interact with our wind turbine, solar electric and solar thermal systems, used vegetable oil furnace and truck.

Our classes are a great way to dig deeper into a subject matter and come away with tangible knowledge to work with at home. Classes are usually 2 hours in length and vary in price. Reservations Required.

My boyfriend, dog, and I visited Apple Pond Farm during a trip to the area. Dick was our tour guide, and we learned a lot from him about renewable energy and how they run their farm. Just as interesting was hearing about Dick and his wife Sonje's life experiences. His passion for what he does is contagious! There is a... More

Our family had a wonderful time on our tour of Apple Pond Farm. We had lots of hands on experiences with many animals - feeding chickens, milking a goat, collecting eggs, petting a donkey, etc. My three year old daughter loved it. Great experience for city kids. Sonja and Dick were friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely visit again the... More

Our weekend at Apple Pond Farm was fantastic! The house is very convenient even for big groups, with 2 bathrooms and everything we needed to cook. We even enjoyed the barbecue! We loved living for a few days in this human scale and peaceful farm, visiting all the animals, feeding the baby sheep, hugging the donkey, playing with the dog,... More

About 16 members of my family visited the Apple Pond Farming Center while visiting the Catskill area on a family trip. Several of the adults in the group were hesitant about going, because they thought it was just for the kids. It was not! The farm owner/leader, Dick, was fabulous. We had a very engaging and interactive tour. Dick talked... More

We were in the area and read what appeared to be incorrect time to visit. We showed up - my 3 year old, my husband and myself to see the farm and take a tour that was advertised. A woman came out and told us she heard there was an error in an advertisement but that the tour was 10... More

My Grandkids milked a goat, collected eggs and saw several animals at the farm. Good for children who don't live in the country.
