My date and I enjoyed the Whaling Museum and learned a lot about Long Island's whaling industry from the various exhibits, artifacts and interactive things throughout the museum. Great place to take older kids, too, for a wonderful and fun learning experience.

The whaling museum looks tiny from the outside but it is filled with so many details about whaling. It is worth a visit if you are ever nearby.

I've been here numerous times. The museum is small, but is the only place I know of where kids (and adults) can learn about whaling. They have some beautiful pieces of scrimshaw.
