Beautiful Park with great vistas of Lake Otsego.

This park has several things to do, There is the oldest Covered Bridge in the US, Hyde Bridge, it has a public beach for swimming on lake Otsego and it has Hyde Hall, which is an english style mansion dating from 1827. The Mansion is on a bluff overlooking the lake. Parking is $7 at the beach, but is Free at the Hyde Hall Parking lot if you go to Hyde Hall. I belive you can also rent Kayaks to use on Lake Otsego

On a beautiful Wednesday during COVID season, we arrived about 9:30 in the morning to walk around a bit and see different views of the lake. It is a good time to arrive. Swimming starts about 11, and the park was much busier when we left. We pretty much had the whole place to ourselves.
We went to the oldest covered bridge in the US, and walked a trail there. We drove to the swimming area and walked around, then drove to the Hyde Hall and walked a bit around there. We looked into taking a tour...but it wasn't going until 11 and we didn't have time to stay that long. We were given information about the buildings outside, and we walked around to see them.
The Lake is gorgeous from this State Park.
We will be back!

We camped here on an overnight trip to Cooperstown and the Madison-Bouckville Antique Week. The camping area is well tended: grass mowed and each site included a picnic table, charcoal grill, and fire pit. Bathroom facilities were clean and had flush toilets, sinks with mirrors, and private showers. We were one of just a few campers with tents. Most people were in RVs. We camped on a Sunday night, and the campsite was quiet with no loud parties or noisy campers. Firewood from the camp office was cheap at $5. The beach was better than other reviews led us to expect. The water stays pretty shallow (so much so that one of the lifeguard chairs is set out in the water) but it gets deep enough to swim in. The beach is sandy and the water was clear and free of seaweed. When we swam at 6:00 PM we were just about the only people there. The historic covered bridge was interesting and a short walk from the beach. I'll definitely return if I'm in the area!

What a beautiful park with beautiful views of the lake and surrounding areas. There is a fee, as there is in all of the state parks. Camping sites are available. Seasonal activities such as picnicking and swimming are available. Plenty of hiking trails. We spent the day here bringing a picnic lunch and hiking a number of the trails. We found them to be well marked and had no problem navigating them. There are some flat trails, but there are some more challenging with lots of ups and downs, but we did take our time with them. Just beware! Bears do frequent this park as is clearly marked on one of the trailheads and in the camping area! We were bold and took that trail and no bear spotted! Oh! Do visit Hyde Mansion located within the park, but a separate fee for the guided tour through the house. Well worth the additional cost which was relatively inexpensive.

This is a lovely park. We hiked the trails, which were really nice (lots of mosquitos on the lower trails, but Sleeping Lion was mosquito-free). We also really enjoyed sitting on the beach and watching the water birds. It's the off season, so there weren't many people there, and it was a very pleasant way to spend the morning several times while we were there.

Glimmerglass State Park is on Otsego Lake on the opposite side of Cooperstown. We went for a hike on the Sleeping Lion Trail. The incline on the trail was challenging for this 60 year old man, but I did it without too much worry.

There is tons of parking.

Drove around the lake a sun was going down. Enjoyed hiking near the covered bridge which is the oldest covered bridge in America. Look for the friendly chipmunks that live in the rocks. Late in the day get great reflections of bridge in the stream. Don’t feed the local black bears near bridge and beaver pond. Wonderful to see the lake surrounded by autumn colors.

Would love to visit in the spring...beach house looks super cool and the lake is probably gorgeous. As it was, we went on a beautiful hike in the snow in January! Seriously, it was lovely and we enjoyed the serenity of the place.

I follow the park/beach on Facebook. They are always really good about posting the hours and costs (parking). The day after we went, they even posted that the credit card machine was down so to bring cash for parking - a great tip! The staff is really friendly and the beach is always clean.

Great little find. We stopped on the way out of Cooperstown. Nice covered bridge and fancy house of the original property owner. Beach looked large and clean. Fall colors were just starting so we had an enjoyable time walking some of the trails.
