Not the most impressive setting (there is a giant electric plant that is nearby) or largest lighthouse (tower is about three stories tall) but worth seeing if you are a lighthouse lover and you do get a nice view of Lake Erie.
First floor of lighthouse is nicely restored with period furniture and appliances. Second floor is more like a military museum, which is unusual for an historic lighthouse. Guide did a good job keeping the tour moving and touring the house, getting us up the stairs to the tower, and back down in less than 30 minutes.
Stairs to the top can be a little treacherous at the top and they could use hand rails on both sides. Nice touch was offering a family rate for touring the lighthouse at $25/family. Very friendly guides and staff at the lighthouse.

The lighthouse and military museum were very good. The military museum had the most authentic artifacts we have ever seen. WW1 uniforms, a Nazi flag taken off a building in Italy, boots from Desert Storm. A room for each branch of the military. Kudos to the dedicated volunteers who oversee this priceless collection. We enjoyed our visit very much.

We had a great time visiting the lighthouse and the museum while traveling along Lake Erie. Dave was a great tour guide and very passionate about the light house. The lady working in the gift shop was very friendly and brightened our day!

We stopped a day before opening as we were passing through the area. We came upon Lighthouse Dave. He was so kind and friendly and full of historical knowledge about the lighthouse and grounds and even though they weren’t open he gave us a tour. The grounds. are beautiful. There really is something for everyone at Dunkirk. The veterans museum has a large collection of military and maritime artifacts. Very interesting. I would recommend this tour to everyone. Thanks again Dave. So nice meeting you!

We were there in early November. They were closed. As we later found in the Lake Erie Wine Country pamphlet, they are open in October 10-2 but then closed until May. So we got to see the outside and the general area, but no inside displays. We had looked for information before heading that way, so if it is posted, it wasn't anywhere we found it. Disappointed.

What a great place to go spend part of the day. Right on Lake Erie, you can't go wrong with the view. Lots of historical artifacts on the grounds and in the building, take your time looking. The only challenge may be walking up the steps to the top of the light house, which is beautiful and I could spend all day up there.

This tour was educational, informative and fun! Our tour guide was beyond knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. We learned so many interesting facts and saw so much! The view from the lighthouse was breathtaking. My teenagers loved it too!

My husband and I got to the lighthouse a little late. It was a very cold, rainy, windy day, but I didn't mind. I really wanted to see this lighthouse. We could have been turned away, but instead we were granted what turned out to be a private tour, as we were the only visitors. As Dave began the tour, I knew immediately I liked him. He was kind, personable, extremely knowledgable. We could talk and joke with him as if we had known him our whole lives.
He and his wife were getting ready to close and could have sent us away. That he happily gave us this tour, and the time he took showed how much he loved the job.
I have never had a better tour anywhere. We had come from Ohio and this lighthouse was the thing I wanted to do most. It was so well worth it, and made our little getaway, as we were heading home the next day. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for a wonderful time.

Paid for the guided tour. The tour of the house and its furnishings was very interesting. The upstairs of the house has all different rooms dedicated to the different military branches. The rooms have pictures and memorabilia that is all well displayed. The climb to the top of the lighthouse was 50+ steps. There are some boats on display on the grounds as well.

Great tour guide and lots of good info! We stopped in at the Dunkirk lighthouse while in the area looking for beachglass. The gentleman giving the tours was very friendly and super knowledgable about the lighthouse. We very much enjoyed talking to him. The house and the lighthouse was interesting and we were excited to get to go to the top. The grounds were well kept and everything was marked well so you knew what you were looking at. It was worth the admission price.
