When visiting this area, I highly, highly recommend the walking tour from The Friends of Historic Kingston. For a very nominal fee, you get a wonderful, interesting history of the whole uptown area. Our guide, Nancy, was one of the best tour guides ever! It is not a strenuous walk encompassing a small area, but it is packed with fascinating detail. So highly recommended!

Cute walk with lots of little cafes and cute shops! We went on a rainy day and loved the canopy that covered the sidewalks of the business district. Many attractions within walking distance-the Senate House and Old Dutch Church. Lots of beautiful murals on buildings and painted crosswalks all over the town. Loved Bops and Tottoms -really cute shop with reasonably priced clothing and gift items!

Like most Hudson Valley communities Kingston has a central business district that thrived long before the suburban malls appeared. But unlike most others, Kingston's uptown district has a twist - a canopy extending over the sidewalks of Wall St. and North Front that not only protects pedestrian traffic but provides amenities like benches, planters and bike racks. There's plenty to do and see and the NYS Senate House historic side is just one block away. Spring and Fall are my favorite times to visit, but under the canopy you'll stay dry anytime of year.

We spent our very first evening in Hudson Valley walking through Kingston's historic town. After taking pictures of the beautiful Senate House, we noticed the local Firemen's Museum was prepping for Halloween. A volunteer saw us from across the street & welcomed us in for an informal tour. What a delightful introduction to this friendly town. By the time we made it to the Old Dutch Church, restoration contractors were putting up for the night. At least I got to read the plaque about the patriots buried in the churchyard. Kingston is such a pretty place, with shops, restaurants, historic sites, and a busy main street. I wish we had arrived a little earlier to explore more. Historic Kingston demands a repeat visit!

Great place to view stunning architecture along an historic Main Street. There were many restored buildings with restaurants, an art gallery, men and women’s clothing store and the real estate establishments. Worth a stop and visit especially on Saturdays where they have a farmers market.

If you're commuting from the City or anywhere South, this is a worthwhile stop off on your way to the larger, more known towns up state. Lots of cute shopping and the best veggie dishes I've ever had at the ramen place. I had no problem with parking at all, either.

The nearest movie theater is in the Hudson Valley Mall off of State Highway 9W in the Town of Ulster, which is about a ten minute drive from Uptown Kingston.
