I am very happy with the care that my horse receives here; more importantly, my fussy mare is happy. The stalls have special matting in them - mattress-like - and they are huge. They receive high-quality hay constantly. All of the staff pays attention to special needs and are happy to meet those. Shots happen without fuss; farrier visits arranged and accompanied; vet visits as well (if the owner cannot make it). Diva was integrated into a herd of mares - peaceably. She is in a marvelous field and very content to have friends. They are turned out regularly - unless weather prohibits it. The indoor arena is surprisingly warm, even in bad weather. It is a family-style and easy going place. The young people whom they teach are all very well mannered around horses and other guests. Amazing.

I have been at Ivy Rock for four months and each month has gotten better and better. As a horse owner for 12 years and have had issues with previous boarding houses, I have finally found a home for my horse. Shelly, Jennifer, and other staff not only take care of the horse, but treat you like family as well. Their facility is top notch, not to mention the awsome trails that cut through the property. Ivy rock is the place to go if anyone is looking for a good time

Growing up I was what people call a 'barn rat' at Ivy Rock Farms. I spent every possible moment I could at the farm, learning horsemanship, riding on miles of beautiful trails, taking lessons sharpening my riding skills and having a wonderful, safe adolescent experience. The years spent working, riding and playing at the Ivy Rock Farms gave me a solid equestrian foundation and unwavering passion for horses. I'm forever grateful to Mr. & Mrs. Gray for their generosity and kindness, and attribute much of my success (including owning and managing my own horse farm) to the life skills I gained from being at the farm during my most impressionable years.

If you want to have a day of riding or a weekly ride, learn horsemanship and care, then this is the place. It's not a big Montana spread but a sizable and very scenic property. The options are endless on what you would like to do and/or learn here. From just a weekend ride to full lessons to various competitive aspirations. Whatever you choose you are schooled first; from safety & grooming to saddling & seating before you even get on the horse. This is not a 'park and ride" hour long, trail ride; you come away feeling accomplished. The staff are knowledgeable, very patient, and the owners seem beyond dedicated to the horses. :)

My children both take lessons and love it here. This is not really a place that the horses are saddled up and just standing around waiting for people to come ride. The instructors teach you how to lead safely, groom and saddle your horse. They care about their animals and all the horses are clean and happy. We have tour the facility and their so many different paddocks for the horses to enjoy "recess" with their buddies. The stalls have mattresses on the floor so it is super comfortable. The staff is kind, patient and always willing to offer to educate. I would recommend for children and adults looking for more than just jumping on a horse for a ride. They teach you how to really build a relationship.

I normally don't use the internet much or write any reviews especially a poor one, but feel compelled to do so given what I know about this place. I could write many things, but will spare you of all the details and will share the following:
1) The facility is poorly run and the horses are not well cared for. There stall floors are not padded much, there are minimal shavings/padding provided and horses can be found standing in urine and poop. Check out for yourself and ask if that is what you would want for your horse.
2) The water buckets provided are routinely lined with slimly film and naturally this is because they are not cleaned properly and the staff just fills them with water rather than removing, scrubbing and refilling.
3) The paddocks (especially the ones you can't see) are filled with rocks (large boulders) - enough said.
4) The size of the lesson horse stalls are very small and the horses can barely move around - check out Bander's stall and see for yourself.
5) The lesson horses are overworked.
6) There are some very nice instructors and that is the ONLY redeeming factor, but the management of the facility isn't focused on caring for the horses. Just take a ride over to their sister farm up the road (Hollybush) and check out the horses they leave uncared for in paddocks without run in shelters, slimy water buckets, etc. Several have all types of skin conditions and it is sad on all levels.

Please avoid disappointment and check out other farms in the area if you are looking to take lessons or board a horse. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS.

Appointment was made 3-2 weeks prior to the date for 1 hour hours back riding. I explained that we are 1.5 hour away and it is an anniversary trip. Shelly gave me the name of the person who would be my trainer/companion - Deanna. When we came on time, Shelly (the owner) was not there, girls did not have any idea about the appointment and in noway could accommodate my reservation. My special day was ruined. Thank you Shelly for the business "run well". I hope you will have the same experience with your reservations sometime.

So, this is not a review of recent times, but of a few years back. My daughter did group, semi private and individual lessons; rode independently (don't remember what the term was) and did the trail a number of times. She loved it and also loved that she was able to tack up, groom, bring the horse in from the pasture, "untack", pick the hooves (?), etc. She learned new things and refreshed on things she already knew and enjoyed herself immensely. Some instructors she liked better than others - but I think that is par for the "course" (pun) whenever you have a teacher/counsellor, etc ... This is the best I could do for a horse-loving daughter, who wanted a horse of her own!

We were introduced to the farm through a Girl Scout trip and have been in love ever since. The instructors have fostered a love for horses and knowledge of their care in my 2nd grader. Their Summer camps are reminiscent of my memories from childhood. Technology free fun: riding, pond swimming and old fashioned games like cats cradle, all at an incredibly reasonable price.
