Nice replica

We did not go inside, but it holds a sea museum. It's a replica from the one you can visit in Lisboa, at smaller scale.

The Torre de Belem has been beautifully restored and now houses a most informative museum about San Vicente's history - the sort of place that gives you just the right amount of detail, not too much, not too little. Visit first thing in the morning, climb up to the terrace on the third floor and you'll get a great view... More

This castle is a classic one. A dongeon compleately empty, a deck with a few cannons, a roof with a view and finnaly, after waiting more than half an hour in line, a tower with just one more view over Belem. Well, it is on UNESCO list, but still a bit boring.

I wasn't expecting that much, but this sight still managed to disappoint. While looking for the tower we had read about, we at first couldn't find it. When we did find it, we realized we had walked past a few times, not realizing it was THE tower.

The tower is nothing to write home about. If you pass by, it is worthwhile to enter the little museum in the tower for 20 minutes.

A poor miniature copy of the original. Go ahead a few meters and watch the fish market. We didn't visit the museum inside; maybe this could have improved our opinion.

In the centre of Mindelo, near the fish market and beach where you can watch the catch bring gutted (eels arrive in wheelbarrows!), lies the tower. A clean and well presented copy of Lisbon's gem. This is Cape Verde, Africa so there is a twist. It is smaller than the original but in keeping with the size of its setting.... More

When I walked by the sea in the island of Mindelo and I saw this tower, I knew it was reminding me about something familiar: in fact I read after that it was supposed to be a copy of the Tower of Belem near Lisbon. Not a great copy, but I suppose they made their best, and it also captures... More

This small tower stands out along the seafront, and is in good condition. But it is a reminder of the Island's colonial past, and looks unusual where it is situated. It does however house a small maritime museum, which can be visited for a small fee.

The tower was built in 1937 during the Salazar dictatorship. The reason was to add some Portuguese heritage to a town built by the English. The tower houses Museum of Porto Grande which is of limited interest. The best thing about the tower is the view from the top floor.
