Very nice and quaint town, very nice people, prices are good, get the ice cream in the middle of town. Otherwise very quiet and conducive to rest.

Driving the park was fun. Be sure to find as many roads as you can, and take time to get out and see the lakes.
We drove through on a Friday and found very little traffic. The colors weren’t as god as we were hoping for but mid October was just a little late this year.

The Adirondack Park in the winter is an entirely different experience than it is in the summer, and it is worth the trip all over again. I spent most of my weekend going back-and-forth from Lake Placid to Saranac Lake, along which the roads and trees were incredibly scenic. The Adirondacks features so many beautiful and fun winter activities, including skiing, snowboarding, and a plethora of winter carnivals and games. All the facilities are going full-bore with hockey tournaments and other events; you really can’t go wrong visiting. Lot of great places to eat and shop, too. I highly recommend it!

I am a trail runner and this is by far one of my favorite places to go. The trails are well marked and there are different levels. The views are extraordinary. And of course you have to visit the waterfalls. A must visit for everyone.

Beautiful scenery. Many types activities available no matter the season - hiking, skiing, gift shopping, relaxing. Different from national parks because people live there - much more than a park. I visit almost every weekend - great area of New York State. If you enjoy the outdoors, this is the place to go.

You can't go wrong with the largest park east of the Mississippi! It has beautiful freshwater lakes, high peaks, great hiking, boating, fishing, hunting, it has it all! You have to come see for yourself to understand why Teddy Roosevelt spent so much time here and ended up establishing the park for future generations to enjoy!

Drove thru the park on our way to Canada . It is huge, like 6 million acres, 10,000 lakes and 30,000 miles of stream and rivers.
It must be glorious in the fall when the leaves turn colors.

The Adirondacks are a one-of-a-kind location and "park" that is larger than seven states. There is something for everyone here. I spent nine days in perfect solitude, 15 miles back into the woods. It was gorgeous, and I got to make friends with several chipmunks who I loved. Cute little fellers! The Adirondack Lean-tos are like no other shelter in the world. You have got to try it!

Very impressed and mesmerized with the park and how friendly everyone was. So many areas to see, hike, bike, swim. My kind of vacation! Definitely worth a return trip!

Many store fronts are from early 19 hundreds. Northville is home to the "OLDEST" 5 and Dime store in the U.S.. The Park offers awesome scenery, camping, hunting, fishing, museums, historical land marks, great dinning and accommodations from bed and breakfast to luxury hotels. Don't forget Lake Placid and the high peaks.

I'll be moving to Rochester in April 2020 and will hope to explore lots of this general area with my dog. I know there may not be many (if any) remote camping locations or trails (hiking and/or driving). Is there any info available that you may be able to direct me to? Having lived in the S/W region of the US all my life, I'm looking for similar experiences regarding remote, less traveled areas.

I can not give you a direct answer to your question but I know that In the internet you can find all the trails and camping sites. You will definitely have lots of fun exploring.
Any recommendations on where to car camp? That is, pull up sites with tent pad that you don't have to hike to reach. Thank you!

Hi, I've read about your description of the Adirondack. Since I and my husband would like to visit that region this September, could you please suggest us which place is the best to see animal, beautiful landscapes, having good hiking and not too much "touristic places"?
Thank you and greetings from Italy

Is dogs allowed in this park?

Yes, dogs are allowed to park. They must be on lash even on site. It is allowed to hike with dogs, but dog must be on lash to protect dog and wild life. I camp on public camps only, never on private, so I do not know the rule for private campground. They can be different. On public campgrounds the rules the same on any camp. It is good price and secure. At the time of registration dog must be registered too. There are two dogs allowed to one side, not more. Early in the morning people take dogs for a walk. Do not forget to clean up after dog.

The Adirondack Park is enormous, so you have many choices, everything from fancy hotels to cabins you can rent. I would suggest you go online to the city/town near where you want to visit (e.g. Lake Placid, Speculator) and you will find plenty of suggestions. There are also state parks (e.g. Northampton, Moffat's Beach) but for these you would need at least a tent.

Another option to consider is the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake. It is typically rated the #1 regional museum in the US. It has parking that accommodates buses and can easily accommodate many large groups.
