The newly refurbished and expanded park is a fantastic place to take in the amazing view of the Hudson River, the Bear Mountain Bridge and the Hudson Valley. The park offers stunning views, lots of park benches and picnic tables, art installations, a walking and bike path, a children's playground. There's even a cruise company company that sails from the park offering short river cruises that offer wine and some with food as well. You'll find plenty of locals and visitors with kids and pets in tow strolling along the river. The park is a must see on any visit to Peekskill.

Charles Point is a good spot to view the Hudson River. (And the Hudson is an impressive-looking river, worth viewing.) From the little park at Charles Point, I could see upriver all the way to the Bear Mountain Bridge. That view alone made Charles Point a worthwhile stop for me. Across the river from the park is Dunderberg-------Thunder Mountain, in English. Dunderberg isn't a big mountain, but what it lacks in height it makes up for in folklore. According to Washington Irving, the Dutch boat crews of old believed a goblin lived on Dunderberg, and that he had the ability to summon up bad weather at will. That was their explanation, at any rate, for the storms that seemed to pop up around the mountain. On the day I pulled into the parking lot at Charles Point, the wind was kicking up whitecaps on the river. The lone sailboat anchored in Peekskill Bay was going up and down like a see-saw on the incoming swells. Out in the channel, a tug labored to push a barge upstream, sheets of spray shooting up from the bow every time it plowed into a wave. A weather report on the radio said the gale was caused by a passing front. Still, I found myself occasionally scanning the summit of Dunderberg for some sign of its alleged supernatural resident.

This is a nice little hidden riverfront spot. Charles Point has a small waterfront park with benches, and a pier. It also has a walking path that joins it to the Peekskill River Front park, making it the perfect place for a stroll. Great views!

A dock with a beautiful view - Charles Point is a great place to visit, take in the sights, and have a picnic. There is plenty of convenient parking in the area as well.

The walking path can be a little bit confusing at first because there are some side branches of it and also it just seems to end. However, it is clear from the map and the signs that the town is continuously building to eventually have this path connect to other areas to be one very long walkway alongside the Hudson, to be some 53 miles long! Also nice for a picnic and views of the water. No charge to park (for a change) or to enter which is also a big plus.

A short pier with many beautiful views. I enjoyed talking with the locals while they crab or fish. The park benches are great for a snacking or eating sandwiches. You can also just put your toes in the water on warm days.

A small park on the Hudson River with a very long pier which attracts a lot of fishers. Also a good place to watch the bald eagles on the Hudson. Limited parking.
