Interesting bit of history

An interesting look at a historical home in Port Jeff. And quite a hat collection! Great to go during Dickens Days if you want refreshments too!

The Mather House is a beautiful museum. While stopping by to check it out, I learned a lot of interesting facts about the Mathers and all about early Port Jeff village. My tour guide Anna was amazing. She took me all-throughout the museum and knew so many interesting facts about the history and family. Being a history buff myself, I... More

I went here because I heard good things about the museum & that part was great. What ruined it was the guide Anna. For starters the brochure says "suggested donation" and the website also said it was by donations - that is not a problem, love helping out a good museum. I get there and Anna demanded a payment for... More

This is a sweet, self-guided museum and gift shop. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. There is a surprisingly large assortment of antiques and near antiques.

The clock museum is the highlight. Incredible collection of clocks. I strongly recommend taking some exTra time when visiting Port Jefferson Village to stop and visit this attraction.

Loved it. The clock museum was great. The little village was so cute. The interesting history of John T Mather was enjoyed by both my husband and I.

While visiting port Jefferson, we were looking for something different to do. We saw a few signs for this museum and figured we go see what it was about. It was a little hard to find and looks like all the other houses on the block, but when you go inside you are transported to another time. What was really... More

We had a nice visit today as a family. It was interesting. We toured for about an hour. The guide knew general information about the items, clocks and Mather family.

I think that our guide could have been a little more well versed. She had a tendency to ramble and correct herself. Perhaps she was new. She was pleasant. The brochure said that the "suggested donation" for a family was $5.00 so my husband & I were expecting to pay $5.00 as we are a family. We were charged 10.00... More
