The museum is not so much a history of photography science and technology as a sampling of photo tools over a long time span. There are lots of cameras on display but the intention is not to track all steps in photo history. Selections change over time. There were explanations of the types of image capture like daguerreotype, which I... More

This is an interesting museum of Eastman's house/ lifestyle and photography as a social phenomena. The home itself is well presented and the docents are interesting and engaging. Not all of the exhibits on photography were open. Well presented storyboards were throughout the museum. My only regret is that it was not summer and so the gardens were dormant; even... More

The George Eastman Museum is the world’s oldest photography museum, founded in 1947. The museum has a collection of over 400,000 photographs from 14,000 photographers dating from the beginnings of the medium (including the largest collection of daguerreotypes outside of France). It also features 16,000 items of camera technology, 26,000 motion picture titles and 3.5 million publicity stills and posters.... More

I live in Rochester, and still love to visit the Eastman House time and time again. So gorgeously redone to replicate how it was when George Eastman lived there. The history abounds and should never be forgotten. There is the museum part with preservation of a long forgotten era, and exhibits of what has been made possible because of George... More

I grew up outside of Rochester but had never been to the museum. We loved this place. The history is amazing. I never knew that Eastman committed suicide or was so eccentric. See the movie first to help you put the house in perceptive. The gardens were closed so we would like to come back in the spring or summer... More

The Geo. Eastman Museum and house should be a required stop for anyone who has ever taken, or even looked at a photograph. The photography section of the museum gives the visitor a comprehensive history of photography and Eastman's contribution to it; from the creation of the user friendly camera and film that would become the company known as Kodak,... I would visit this place again in the future. It's beautiful. The staff are pleasant and very knowledgeable and once you take the tour of the house you are allowed to walk around on your own. It's wonderful. The house and grounds are kept quite nice. Definitely something you should visit if you're in the area ... and the cost... More
