Three floors and three subjects in this former 1870's casino (Canfield) in Congress Park. Floor One: The history of Saratoga Springs. Floor Two: The dark side of the town's history of drugs, gambling, prostitution and gangsters. Floor Three: The Walworth Family. I really enjoyed this museum and it was only $6. The first floor has a history of Saratoga Springs and many artifacts along with a stunning stained glass window and gift shop. The second floor has an original casino room in all its sumptuous glory, along with a room that talks about the vice and the darker side of gambling... More

Stopped in here for a visit with my son, it was really cold outside so I wanted to bring him in where it was warm. For $4 the two of us were able to walk around and check out this interesting museum. Some exhibits were a bit gruesome but I absolutely appreciate that the curator wasn't censoring anything. When I... More

Outstanding exhibits and presentation of Saratoga Springs' local history. Located in the city park for a great setting. Highly recommend a visit if you have the time.

The building the Historical Society is in dates to the 19th century, and its primary interest centers around when Saratoga Springs was in its heyday of horse racing and gambling. The fellow who owned it was a former Congressman and US Senator. His story is fascinating and has had a couple of biographies written of him. His story should really... More

My wife and I visited this museum as we are great fans of the Edna Ferber novel "The Saratoga Trunk" and wanted to see the Club House Casino, that used to be in this building. The museum was far better than we had expected with three stories - the history of Saratoga Springs, the Casino/mobster period and finally the Walworth... More

We hadn’t planned to visit this museum, just walked by it and wondered what it was. The admission was far too low compared to the value of the exhibits. The senior rate was only $5 and the regular adult admission is $6. There was obviously a lot of thought, care, and pride that went into the curation of this museum.... More

Was not sure what to expect, but was very happy to have visited here. The history of Saratoga along with the Walworth family was very educational. The collection of antiques and the story telling of the family was quite enjoyable. I also found out they will have a tour of the remainder of the building, which is a ballroom and... More

What a wonderful place to visit! Upon entering you feel a sense of nostalgia looking at the staircase in front of you! On the left you stop in gift shop and part of the museum, where you pay a small fee! It was so interesting and informative! The upstairs is part of the Casino, with an old roulette table, as... I didn't realize the history of Saratoga Springs was tied to NYC and the Mofia, the wealthy, Hollywood. All of this because of the mineral springs and the desire to get away from the hot city, if you were wealthy. The employees were extremely knowledgable and seemed to be very willing and interested in sharing that with patrons.
