Offers nice walking paths and great scenery. Has hills that may be steep for some people. Good points for taking pictures. Information stations offer a glimpse into history of the fort.

Inside the grounds of Fort Wadsworth sits Fort Tompkins, overlooking the harbor and Battery Weed underneath it. It's equal parts historic, architecturally stunning and creepy. We recently went to a special program there hosted by the Alice Austen House and it was s great venue.

What a welcoming community. We found it very easy to get around walking and using the city bus system. The Navy Lodge serves the purpose well. Within walking distance to restaurants and bus stops all around. Clean community.

The Fort is an underappreciated resource on the island. During migration seasons in the Spring and Fall, there is EXCEPTIONAL BIRDING here near the beach. In the summer, there is a campground that caters to Europeans seeking to stay in NYC on a budget. Great...More
