About
The Wild Center's outdoor-only experience is open 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm. The Wild Center is an 115-acre hands-on place to get all kinds of new perspectives on the wild world of the Adirondacks. It will include Wild Walk, a brand new trail across the treetops starting in the summer of 2015. The Wall Street Journal called The Wild Center "Glorious" in its review, and The New York Times called it "stunning". The Center has live animals, a wide screen theater, canoes, its own river, guides walks, tons of cutting-edge green building systems, and the only treetop walk in the Adirondacks.

What a fabulous place!
Aug 2021
My husband and I went expecting a pleasant afternoon visit, but nothing as wonderful as this place turned out to be. The indoor museum was beautifully designed, we found out all kinds of interesting things about the rescued animals (and thoroughly enjoyed the half-hour program featuring Stickly the porcupine), felt moved to tears by the haunting beauty of the Forest Music, got a huge kick out of the beautifully designed and crafted cat walk (also learned alot from the info offered), loved the Sticks nature art, and found the walk down to the Raquette River well worth the time and energy. All together a great experience that we highly recommend.

Good 1/2 day experience for kids and those with imagination and a love of nature.
Aug 2021
We spent most of a day very leisurely wandering the Wild Center. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. We started at the Wild Walk which looks bigger in advertisements, but the kids enjoyed it. I was under the impression it was higher up in the air then it is, but it is still pretty cool. It looks like more parts are in development. Due to COVID, we decided on ordering the brown bag lunch which was a super convenient offering. It wasn't anything outstanding, but quick and filling. There are shaded areas to eat so you can also bring your own food. We didn't spent much time inside as it was a bit crowded for us but we did get a glimpse of the otters inside. Outside we loved playing in the pine playground where you can use your imagination to make what ever you want out of wood blocks.
My personal favorite part was the music sound walk. There are sculptures and peaceful music playing throughout the short walk. I could have stood there all day.

Marketing doesn't meet reality -- The center is for very young children
Jul 2021
The advertising and photos are fantastic and wildly misleading! The wild walk is below the tree line so you can't really see anything. There are no animals to be seen as the area is cleared below and the focus of animals is by the museum. The walk is meant for children below the age of 7. I went with 8 kids (2 families) all over the age of 13 and they were bored and disappointed. The very young kids that were touring at the same time appeared to enjoy it. You are better off taking a hike versus the wild walk.

Fantastic!

Start to finish our trip to the wild center was great. My husband and I brought my
19 month old daughter. You can buy your tickets online and then get checked in from your car at the entrance. The staff was friendly and informative. We started off on the wild walk which was a largely accessible boardwalk style
Walk into the tree tops. I felt totally safe letting my daughter run free and had a blast with all of the different features as well as just running around some of the design elements. The spider web was her favorite part!

We took the steps down and took the trail to the river overlook which was a hike but doable with her in the stroller. The path is clearly laid out, including when you are leaving a museum path. The view was super calm and secluded. We wondered back up and headed inside. My daughter doesn’t love darkened exhibit spaces so we moved fairly quickly through the indoor space.

Throughout the center was very covid conscious - lots of hand sanitizing stations, one way direction indoors, bagged lunches, clear signage and asking parties to use the outdoor activities like the spider web one at a time. You can tell the center is run by individuals who make very socially conscious decisions. The restrooms were super clean despite being compostable outhouses and there was a cool hand washing station outside the snack stand. Plenty of EV charging stations and no paper tickets, too. I have celiac and generally I can’t eat at museums and the like- but their bagged lunch included 2 gluten free sandwich options! We got 4 bagged lunches complete with fruit, beverage and chips for $42 and ate on the patio overlooking the water and sculpture.

All in all it was a great day and I wish that more places like this existed. Definite must do if you’re vacationing within driving distance!

Great Experience
Jun 2021
The interior portions of The Wild Center were closed due to COVISD 19 restrictions at the the of our visit.
The exterior tour was educational and interesting . We also booked a guided canoe trip which was outstanding.

A must stop while in ADK!

The Wild Center was a wonderful experience for my family while visiting the Adirondacks last week! We walked the tree tops, stood in an Eagle’s nest & even climbed in a spiderweb! 😉 So many fun adventures for my kids (aged eight and five) to do to last hours.

Out of everything, I must say it was the staff that made our trip. Everyone we spoke to was amazing & knowledgeable. HUGE shoutout to Tim! My son left a stuffed dragon behind and Tim rescued the stuffed dragon & mailed him back to us in NJ that very same day. Top notch staff and experience, highly recommend you stop in here while visiting the Adirondacks !

TERRIBLE
Mar 2021 • Family
Terrible, we only saw 1 animal listed on their list of the day. The staff was clueless! As I am complaining about how the whole experience is falsely advertised and we had only seen 1 raven the other employee is telling a woman “oh yes there’s a bunch of animals out back there”... you mean the 1 raven that I am complaining about. Two families had small children crying about not seeing anything. The couldn’t tell me where to go to see animals, the guaranteed to be out sign means that they are guaranteed to be outdoors not out so you can see them. Walkways were icy not plowed or salted. I have truly seen more animals and in closer proximity in my backyard! This place is a total misrepresentation of what a wild center experience should be!

Must do if nearby

The Wild Center was my #1 reason to visit the Adirondacks with my 9 year old son. I’m so glad we visited. The animals were neat and the treetop walk was even neater. We were there late in the day on a Friday and it was not busy at all. The views from the treetop walk were amazing. The staff was friendly and helpful. The building was only open for restrooms. If you are near Tupper lake I highly recommend visiting.

A lovely outdoor day for families with kids.
Oct 2020
We had a great time at the Wild Center with our 3.5 yo and 13 mo. Those complaining about there not being enough to do must not know how to use their imaginations. The kids play area is a lot of fun- it's big and they have all kinds of natural "building materials" to make forts, obstacle courses, etc. The kids also had a lot of fun with the treetop area and spider web, and I really enjoyed the music walk. You also can see the otters playing up close which was a nice bonus. I probably wouldn't make a huge special trip just for this, but it was definitely worth driving 40 minutes from Lake Placid during our fall foliage road trip.

Great attraction
Oct 2020 • Couples
Although a number of indoor attractions were closed (due to Covid restrictions) this place has many trails and outdoor programs. There are structures of bridges and walkways above the grounds that are a big hit for kids. Of note the day we visited was a populace of woodpeckers and nuthatches and chickadees visiting the feeders, not to mention some very vocal red squirrels.
