We did a tour of the Church and the monument. Walked through the catacombs and learned the story of Saint Emilion. We were on a Bordeaux 3 day City Pass and it included the tour at no charge. We took the train from Bordeaux - 30 minutes and 9.50 euros each way. We gave ourselves 6 hours in Saint Emilion... More

Unfortunately I missed the English tour so I went on the French one and was given a transcript. The guide seemed to be very knowledgeable and she spoke slowly and clearly so I could pick up on some of the stuff she was saying. The church is amazing, even if I couldn't understand a single word it would have been... More

The visit to Saint Emilion is of course all about wine testing and dinner but it is also worth devoting an hour or two to visit wonderful sights. Be aware Saint-Émilion's history goes back to prehistoric times and is a UNESCO World Heritage with fascinating churches, narrow streets and very old town. Monolithic Church dates back from medieval time, was... More

Wonderful little visit. It wraps around you and lifts the town up that makes you feel embraced by the warmth of the region. This doesn't take long and below there is a little square that you can truly feel like a local.

Well worth the visit, just remember that the English tours leave once a day only. The underground church is amazing!

Grand belltower with a grand view! World Heritage listed. It "towers" (excuse the pun) high above the church which is buried in the rocks beneath. A beautiful icon on the Horizon. 1746.

St Emilion is a picture book town surrounded by vine yards, wonderful country side - the church is something very special. You can only get in as part of a conducted tour, you cannot take photographs inside. Get a private tour or join a group and marvel at the subterranean structure.

Impressive architecture surrounds dating back to the Roman Empire. More wine shops that there are people, so we shipped a case home for later :-)
