Small but interesting

The museum is very small but it is very interesting. The history of the island being a prison was interesting.

Sad but real reminder of our misguided past. Small but well laid out and friendly, knowledgeable volunteers. Lots of information about the islands past as a prison for predominately aborigines.

The Rottnest Museum has a very comprehensive story of life on the island when it was an aboriginal penal colony. 1831-1903. The artefacts and displays are very well presented. There is also a very interesting video explaining how they found aboriginal graves near the old prison. A gold coin donation is appreciated but not compulsory on entrance. It is open... More

This museum relies on donations, so put what you feel necessary in the tin. A significant amount of information about the vast numbers of indigenous people that were sent to this island as well as local flora and fauna. Worth a visit if you are on the island.

The museum is very well set out and despite being only a small space I got so engrossed in it I missed the next bus that I was going to get lol. Staff were lovely and welcoming.

this is a cute little museum run by enthusiastic volunteers so do yourself and them a favor and give it a visit. It has a little of everything: history, natural history, geography, and a bit about the use of the island as part of the WA penal system.

Apart from a few photos on the wall there is little to see. There is memorabilia from a wreck in the 1950s.

This museum is small but is packed full of information. It does not gloss over the sordid history of Rottnest and presents it in a manner where we can all learn how to be better people. The museum also covers details of how Rottnest was formed and the animals that can be found on the island. Recommend visiting if you... More

What a great place to go back in time and learn more about settlement, war preparations, Aboriginal convicts, and ships and marine life for a small gold coin donation. There are lots of personal artifacts and stories here that can leave you wondering more about those who lived here freely or as convicts, and what their lives must have been... More
