The mission of the West Point Museum is to collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret historically significant artifacts pertaining to the United States Military Academy, United States Army and the Profession of Arms. The Museum supplements cadet academic, cultural and military instruction and provides educational programs and services for military and civilian personnel. As a public institution, the museum stimulates interest in the United States Military Academy, the United States Army and the Military profession. In addition to the main museum building in Olmsted Hall, the Museum also administers Fort Putnam which it operates seasonally. The Museum also maintains part of its collection on display on Post with the cannon collection on Trophy Point, The superintendant portraits in the Cadet Mess and artwork in many of the academic and administrative buildings. All visitors to the United States Military Academy are encouraged to tour the Museum to view what is considered to be the oldest and largest diversified public collection of miltaria in the Western Hemisphere. The Museum does not require ID to visit. ID for everyone over 16 will be needed if you plan to tour the Academy grounds. Please visit the West Point Garrision webpage for further visitor information.

A must see. My son attends West Point and will graduate this may. This museum gives a look at Cadet life and has many historical facts. West Point is a gem of America. It feels all with pride and especially those of us who have cadets that carry on the tradition of the Long Grey Line.

The tour bus guide was very informative. The areas we were able to walk around were very nice including the church. After the tour visted the museum. That was well worth seeing. I would go again.

The history of America is intertwined with battles that have won or maintained our freedom. The displays take you through various time periods with uniforms, weapons, explanations, etc. West Point played a strategic role and its graduates key players in most conflicts. Worth the time to tour.

The museum is open most every day of the year, with a couple exceptions. You can see displays of cadet rooms, uniforms throughout the 200+ year history, videos of cadet life and famous graduates, and other aspects of THE United States Military Academy. The museum is currently under rebuild, though portions are still open. Entrance to the museum is free,... More

I traveled to The Academy from NYC on a retirement trip. The buses are not all that convenient so you have to adjust your schedule accordingly with Short Line (From Port Authority Bus Terminal) but it is all very affordable. The "perch" of the site itself is breathtaking with spectacular views of The Hudson. The museum is I suppose "top... More

A really interesting and historic museum. Three floors of artifacts truly worth seeing. There is no charge to visit the museum just a donation box if you like.

A huge museum that takes you through the history of war and the American army. Very interesting displays, but many do seem like they haven’t been updated in many years. Lots of people were visiting but did not feel crowded.

We toured this free museum on Tuesday January 10, 2017. The collection of American military items is unreal. The museum is organized in an easy to follow order. The museum is a must see for any military veteran.
