One tip: walk slowly! We rushed a bit up the mountain and paid for it the next three days with sore calfs and hips. Beautiful views and wildlife (pretty sure I saw a Bald Eagle!). Climb the fire tower on top of the mountain if you are not too afraid of heights (and wind). Ruins of hotels from 1820-1940's are... More

My husband and two sons and I hiked to the top on a beautiful February day. The temperature was in the high 60s. We enjoyed it very much. The ruins of the old hotel at the top were very interesting. Definitely would go back. The trail itself was nice and wide. It was a little icy since it was February... More

This is a nice moderate 2.5 mile hike uphill on a very cleared up and wide trail. It was a very special hike because... I proposed to my fiancée up there! She was thrilled and we were both happy. It was a good pick and even with fog instead of sunshine it felt right. Anyways, I don't hike too often... More

The trip up Overlook is a steady, unrelenting climb. The path is wide and clear, so easy footing, but it is steadily uphill. Ignore the folks jogging up - they are regulars and in great shape - and just keep going. When you get almost to the top you can explore the remains/ruins of one of the hotels that once... More

This is a GOOD HIKE. I was definitely sore for 2 days after. You get to see some cool ruins and the fire tower at the top has incredible views. Where good shoes and watch the weather. Have fun!

This is not an easy hike. It is 2.5 miles straight up to the fire tower. We took a lot of breaks on the way up. The path is made of gravel rocks (where the horse carriages used back in the early nineties to go up to the hotel), and so not hard to hike on. Just going up the... More

I happened to find out about this trail accidently. I was looking up the best trails to do in the Catskills, and someone happened to have a link to their experience doing the Overlook mountain trail. Knowing the trail was rated difficult and myself and my fiance are not advanced hikers... we agreed to try it out. It said it... More

My husband, baby, dog, and I hiked to the Overlook summit (about 2.5 miles from the parking lot) and part of the way to Echo Lake (2 miles from main trail). There is only one trail for the first two miles, so there are a lot of people the whole way. It's a wide, gravel path with little tree cover.... More

Used to hike this trail in the 70's as a scout, then with my sons as scouts in the late 80's. Times have changed the trail a bit. they've reopened the ranger tower which was closed in the 80's, the tv towers are a bit annoying, but the view from the overlooks remains a incredible as ever. The ruins of... More
