OK we just went to the pool today and I have to tell you that for this being in Yorktown Heights this pool is trash. Do not expect anything nice here and the web page says no music is allowed at all and yet all we heard all day long was loud music coming from other people. This is unacceptable and should not be done. The pool needs a tremendous amount of work and is falling apart. In my opinion the county should close this pool and redo it and make it look nice because this is not for this area. Trash.

Park and pool are great. Staff are nice but people were blasting music from 3 foot speakers everywhere and there was a lot of garbage being left at picnic sites. No enforcement what-so-ever of music rules. Bathroom was disgusting with feces all over the floor. People disobeying smoking rules and also throwing lit cigarettes into dry leaves. Visitors are trashing this great place after a $30-million renovation. Unfortunate and I would not drive 2 hours from NYC to go back there. Trails are probably the cleaner, quieter option here.

“Beautiful and historical state park” 841 miles and 3.4 trail miles
The park was created in 1922 on the former site of the Mohansic State Hospital. It was renamed Franklin Delano Roosevelt State Park in 1982
I went on the trails(only) at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park. So this review is for the trails only. The trip was about 50mins. by car from New Rochelle, no traffic. The park is beautiful setting and offers a clean place to hike, walk, run, Bike, and play frisbee with your family and dog. You can reserve a picnic area, but there are tons of picnic areas thru out so if you aren't with a large family gathering only would you need to reserve a pavilion. I love coming here to Bike ride with the dog and have a picnic by the lake.
The park overall is beautiful and has a lot of things to do. Several workshops and walks are offered constantly. There are several hiking trails, most along the majestic lake and history seems to be everywhere. We were told that the Park holds over 40 special events annually including dog shows, walkathons and festivals.
The park lakes provide excellent freshwater fishing and boating. Popular catches include bass, perch, and sun fish. A New York State Freshwater Fishing License is required.
The park's hills and trails are just perfect for Biking . The young and the young at heart will enjoy biking and walking here. The park does charge as most New York state parks charge a vehicle user fee to enter the park -we paid $8.00 per car.
I also love the proximity to the small towns around.

place is nice as far as State Parks go- city element is a bit much for me- having a nice day with my family when a group of 15- 20 drunk adults started fighting in one of the soccer fields- police and Park Rangers came- arrested people- it was a scene- not how I wanted to spend the weekend with my kids though...

This is a beautiful recreation area with a large jungle jim play area for children, basketball courts, boating and pool right off the Taconic State Parkway in Westchester County. The facility has barbecues that require charcoal with picnic tables. There is a lake in the facility where you can rent row boats after June 30. I have seen people fishing but do not know if it requires a license or if there are fees associated with that activity. The park is segmented into different "marked" areas with parking lots servicing each area. The various areas can be reserved for your group. There is a daily cost associated with entry to this State Park or you can buy a season pass. You cannot camp as the park closes at dusk and has its own contingent of State Park Police with vehicles. I have been at the park during the week and it is empty except for locals who are using it as a place to walk for exercise. On the weekend when the sun is out this place is packed.

Don’t support this park. They underpay their employees. I’ve worked at the pool the last three summers, this involves picking loads of trash that people leave behind, cleaning toilets and bathrooms, dealing with nasty patrons who do things like blame US for the weather. I’m writing this review because even though this is my third summer, I get paid the same amount as the people who just started here. Also, everyone else gets holiday pay on july 4 except the pool employees, when the pool has ~4000 patrons on this day and do the most work on this day. During the summer the park gets over run by people coming up from the city. This is a beautiful park honestly, and they treat it like a dump. No respect whatsoever. Trash left everywhere and no consequences for it. It’s really a shame how these people can come up here and do whatever they want / disrespect the entire place. Overall besides this park having nice scenery, it’s a crappy place that cheat their employees and let people trash it.

I've been a long time user of this Park...even back to when it was known as Mohansic State Park. I've picniced and hiked there, but my main and consistent use has been tor fishing and essentially that's how my review will be based on... I'm a sliver away from being 73 years old, and I've been fishing here since I was 19. What's been the main draw is it's nearness to NYC, plus it's access, plus the quality of fishing available. Also, the opportunity to see and use an undeveloped lake, and observe various birds and wildlife. such as great blue herons, snapping turtles, deer, otter, red winged black birds, and canadian geese... I used to love being on the lake in the early morning and hear canadian geese in the distance. Then the sound grows and suddenly they burst over the tree line, flying in formation. Beautiful! One of the really neat features here is the small narrow, winding channel of perhaps 100-yards long that connects the main lake to a smaller lake named Crom Pond, also undeveloped. In the highly developed Yorktown area, this is like an oasis of secluded serenity... Anyway, in both lakes, there is very good fishing for largemouth bass, black crappie, bullhead catfish, and various different sunfish like bluegill and pumpkinseed. There are densely weeded areas, points, man made piers, deadfalls, shallow coves, and so forth to provide very different fishing opportunities for skilled or beginner anglers...
To take full advantage of the fishing, you really need your own boat, although the Park does offer rentals. Gas motors are not permitted. There is a boat ramp within the park, and cartopper drop off access and parking outside the park. Best to contact the park first for their fees, boat registration decals, and use rules and process before just showing up. Good fishing!

During the summer season FDR Park is a busy swim and bbq haven for legions of myriad folk coming from a wide range of settings. Once admissions prices fade in the subsequent shoulder season, the park takes on a more peaceful and local flavor.
Grandparents with kids, dog walkers seeking fresh air, runners of varying lengths and commitment are among the various visitors who take advantage of a more relaxed turnstile free opportunity to spread their wings a bit. The kids playground area is especially well kept, with lots of challenging and varied exercise options.
Our three year old companion had loads of fun making a new friend in the process, came home for lunch before surprisingly announcing he wanted to take a mid-afternoon nap, one that lasted a record setting two and a half hours!

We visited here near the end of September, for a "walk in the park". There are no admission fees charged on weekdays after labor day, so admission was totally free for us visiting during the week. We strolled around the park grounds, and along the lake: it was a very pleasant place in which to stretch our legs. There are a few historical markers and plaques, for added interest. The park is easily accessible from the parkway (41.283306, -73.818123), but you can also enter the park from the Rt 202 entry (bus entrance, 41.293716, -73.812429) if you're coming over from that way.

FDR State Park has a lot to offer- pool, boat rentals, picnicking, hiking trails, etc. the park is very well managed and they are continually making upgrades. The only down side is that many visitors don't respect the natural beauty of the park and leave litter behind. The park crews work hard to stay on top of it, but it would be better for everyone if each person cleaned up after themselves. It is a privilege to have the park in my home town- please help keep it clean!

Hi Are NYC residents allowed to enter park and pool?
Written 11 August 2020
Yes, if you pay admission. This is a NYS park.
Written 26 September 2022
Does it have an outside swimming pool and how much to use it ????
Written 6 August 2019
The answer is yes to the pool, but having never used it, I can't quote an admission price...Actually it could be free with the price of admission, but call the park to be sure...
