What a super fun, unique way to escape the city. Visiting the alpaca farm was nearby (about an hour from NYC), reasonably priced and very educational. This is a great family activity. In addition to the alpacas there were horses and donkeys. The tour guides (and owners) were friendly, informative and welcoming. We will definitely be back! '

Back a winding trail into nowhere, far away from highways, you find a medium sized farm where these exotic beauties graze. Silver gray and brown, you can also purchase a skein of yarn and know exactly which creature donated it.

Faraway from the city, and even from the suburban town. It is worth a trip with younger children, or rather older children. Probably lost on tweens

My sister and I had so much fun at Faraway Farm. It was easily accessible by the Metro North train from Manhattan (such a scenic route as well) to Croton-Harmon, and then an Uber to the farm.
Leda is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about her animals, and her love for them shines through. She is very pleasant and warm towards visitors and also very patient with answering questions.
It was an amazing experience spending time with the alpacas and the Icelandic horses, and also a very therapeutic one. The merchandise at the store was exquisite as well.
We can't wait to be back again in this lovely place.

Leda and Steve are lovely people and gave our group a wonderful tour of their gorgeous farm, well worth the $15 each. Leda was also very responsive and accommodating via email when setting up our visit. We spent over and hour with them meeting their alpacas, Icelandic horses and learning about the farm. Alpacas are very curious creatures, much like cats, they sniff you out and decide whether to approach. There are a few that will let you lightly pet their necks, Leda will let you know. Honestly, it was nice just to be able to be close to such fascinating fluffballs and getting alpaca kisses from them. The store is full of fabulous alpaca pieces, very fairly priced considering the quality of the fleece. The stuffed chicken is the softest thing I've ever touched! It seems like April would be the best time to visit if you want to see the herd at their fluffiest, we'll definitely be back!

Leaving Bear Mountain, we decided to visit Faraway Farm Alpacas and are so glad we did. A lovely respite of farm life, with the cutest alpacas to greet you. The owner was on-sight and a pleasure to speak with. Great for kids, families. Nice farm store selling all sorts of alpaca yarn items, much made from the same furry friends you were just petting.
So glad we stopped there!

It was fun to see the alpacas and Icelandic horses. The owner of the farm mingles and talks with the guests, and she was very nice. Free to go to, but everything in the store felt very expensive.

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit. Most of the year, we are open by appointment only, so all visitors should check with us first, before coming. I am sorry to hear that you felt that our farm store was pricey, but almost all of our items are handmade. Thank you for visiting.

Faraway Farms is a magical place. I have visited twice and the Alpacas were fascinating animals with real personalities. The first visit they were real interested in me and one came up and put its head on my shoulder. On the second visit, the highlight were the two new babies that were just weeks old. Leda who owns the farm is gracious and so knowledgeable. You can tell the Alpacas love her.

This is a place that is pastoral and beautiful close to NYC.
I am wearing the warm socks right now. The animals are like shy oversize dogs.

Very nice place to visit and see the alpacas up close. The help was interesting and had a lot of information. There were a few very young babies when we visited.

They have a nice gift shop where you an buy items made of alpaca wool. The socks are soon soft and warm.

We have an incredible Alpaca farm close to home. If you haven't visited yet, put it on your calendar. The alpacas are beautiful and lovingly cared for, grazing on the rolling hills. There's a gift shop that has expertly done and useful products made from alpaca, like scarves, socks, vests, jackets. If you're looking for something to do on a weekend, stop by.
