I like anything that by the water...paths are nice to walk, have good spots for barbecues...not good for fishing as per signs!!

Great walking trails through woods and along the lake. Hilly but not too strenuous. Plenty of geocaching "treasures" if you are into that sort of thing... much fun

This place is a great place to go for hikes, picnic, barbecue, walks around the lake. Fishing is nice too....

Have stayed here in our RV several times. Brenda & staff very friendly & accommodating. Nice bath houses & large sites make this a 10+.

We hiked to the cove and back through shady hollow. Hiking shoes are wise on parts of those trails. Mosquitoes are lurking for you. We saw squirrels, a frog, lotus of fungus and plenty of ants, with a few butterflies. After 3 days of conference...More

If you want to take a hike that is within the city limits of Charlotte, McDowell is worth a visit. The trails aren't very challenging, but there is enough terrain variation to keep you interested.
