My third time here. Museum offers a variety of exhibits of wildlife. Soucursteme of the information may need to be checked for accuracy. I believe their Black Bear notes may be inaccurate. Males can weigh upwards to 900 pounds and run up to about 35 mph. The "Farm" is a separate fee which makes no sense since access is from the parking lot and no one checks. In the "Farm" a building has a sign on it describing a cedar shake roof, but the roof is metal. The walking trail is nice but I observed few taking advantage. Overall, the museum part is excellent (with the planetarium) but I would like to see more from the "Farm" areas.

Came here with my kids (6 and 4) on a weekday right at opening. Waited around 30 min just to buy tickets (there were only about 10 families ahead of us probably), they just seemed unorganized at the front desk.
My kids particularly enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit and the taxidermy animals. Overall, the place was a lot bigger than I was expecting.
Also did one of the planetarium shows. It is definitely geared towards children. Think the content was slightly above my 6 year old, but I think that teenagers might be bored by it. So I would say 7-10 years old would be perfect age there. Traveled around an hour to see the museum (from SC) and I would say my kids enjoyed it enough that we will be back again in a year or so.

I was surprised by how much this small museum had to offer and the price was very reasonable. There was a variety of exhibits of animals and nature. Unfortunately, the planetarium was closed, and there wasn't a gift shop. However, the wooded trail outside added an extra experience to the museum visit.

I had high hopes for the planetarium, but it was totally geared towards children. Inside the museum, they had some amazing taxidermy animals on display.

I have been going here since I was a kid. As long as your license has a Gastonia address, its free to enter. It has grown alot with alot of exhibits to choose from and some minor wildlife. Has an authentic Catawba Indian Village Setup and is a great time for the entire family. My children and grandchildren have been there and hope to take my Great Grandchildren some day!!!

My family arrived just as the museum opened on a Saturday morning. Prices were fair for the amount of exhibits there were to explore. A few high touch experiences are still out of commission due to COVID protocol but that is to be expected at this point. I was disappointed that the Native American Village exhibit was closed on the weekends as there is no way for us as a working family to go during the week. Even so, everything else was full of fun and information for all of us. Definitely will be back again in the future!

My family went last week to a half closed museum, Covid had a majority of the exhibits closed and we were still charged full price for admission! They should reduce the admission price, reflect it against the percentage of exhibits closed. It was such a disappointment for my sons, they went through the entire museum in less than 30 minutes.....we love going here and have went for years but it's going to be a long while before we return.

This is a fabulous little museum for children of all ages. My children loved visiting. We ate a picnic lunch in the parking lot and then spent around 2 1/2 hours walking through and enjoying the exhibits. There are some live animals to see both inside and out as well as the many taxidermied critters on display. The dinosaur exhibit and narwhal room were fun for my children. The creepy dark area was a little scary for my youngest and another child in our group so do beware of that. Free parking and a nice young girl doing science games and experiments in the lobby for the kids. The reason I give four stars is because of the mandatory masks even though the state mandate has been lifted. We should not be forced to endure masks anymore. We would have chosen to go somewhere else had we known that they were still making people wear them. Otherwise the visit was wonderful.

My daughter and l went to the museum yesterday June 8th in the afternoon. It was free to tour the museum the second Tuesday of every month, we also did the findings of the gems(rocks) my daughter is obsessed with rocks so just having the rocks was great. I thought it was pretty cool to tour the museum it was our first time at this museum. l really enjoyed the live creatures that were available. The only thang we miss seeing was going to the roof we didn't get to see what that was all about. I thought the way the gems were done was boring. Before l came l thought find gems was going to be like Reeds Gold Mine now that l enjoyed. So, l do think finding the gems could be updated make it more interesting for older kids/ adults. Thank you for offering the free entry for the museum.

Trip Advisor lists The Schiele Museum of Natural History and the Schiele Museum as two separate attractions. Are they different?

No, this is all the same facility - just different sections & all under one roof with the exception, of course, the nature trail which has a Living History Farm & Indian Village along the trail. There are outside events held several times a year. The Indian Village is locked most of the time due to problems with vandalism & the farm house is occasionally staffed when events are held.

How does this differ from the Schiele Museum? It is listed as a separate attraction.
How much is it to get in?

No charge for Schiele Museum members & $6.00 for nonmembers. I think seniors 65 or older is reduced but well worth the modest admission prices. You won't regret going to see the great attraction.
