a lot of trails to hike and you can rent canoes or kayaks and paddle the mill pond if you are lucky you can see the alligator that lives in the mill pond they have 5 one is 9 feet long

Yes, we have rented them before. Be sure to dress warm, the wind across the water in the winter can be very cool.

We went in November to both the Great Dismal Swamp (border of NC/VA) and the Merchants Millpond State Park out of concern for mosquitoes, and, of course, there were no mosquitoes.

Yes, we saw an aligator. But it was the snapping turtle the size of a manhole cover that made us nervous. Those were our sightings for 3 days.
