This terminal does not communicate with the people waiting for the ferry. They place you in lanes then allow people who get in line AFTER you to get on the ferry first. You wait for hours to take a ferry ride over to Ocracoke. Make sure you get there as soon as they open if you want to get on the ferry in a decent time frame.

Truly an amazingly unique experience to glide across Pamlico Sound from Hatteras and Ocracoke Island. The trip now takes over an hour each way thanks to the impact of nature on the channel. However, it is a magical experience , no matter the weather, thanks to the efforts and friendliness of the ferry crews and port personnel. People of all ages seem to be smiling!!!

Wow NC you can do better. Waited 3 hours in parking lot for ferry to Ocracoke. And what used to be a half hour trip, takes over an hour.
Told they don’t have enough employees for the ferries, and the dredging is a big issue.
Summer months will be a problem for the ferry service.

Don't believe the website. The website says the ferry comes every hour during off season, it does not, it depends on how many boats are running. We missed the boat by 4 minutes and the next boat didn't come for 2 hours. The attendant was rude when we parked to far up drive and then got annoyed when i questioned the websites information.

We love riding the ferry system! So what if you have to wait a little bit. You can eat, drink and shop. The crew will let you know approximately how much time you have. Thanks to the Captain, the Crew and NC for allowing us a free and beautiful ride to Ocracoke.

The ride was long but was expected. The views were spectacular. Would definitely go on that ferry again.

How can you complain about a free ride to Ocracoke Island? The ride over is an experience in itself! Great views, have your camera ready. Depending where you choose to sit if you get out of your car, it can be hot and/or you deal with some exhaust fumes, so be prepared to relocate or walk around.

The ferry was on time, efficiently run, and the employees were friendly. The trip took an hour over to Ocracoke Island and all went smoothly.

The terminal operation to Ocracoke was efficient, and well marked for cars getting on the ferry. If you're there early they have Hatteras Landing with shops and rest rooms as well as a small museum to bide your time.

Wow, this was an effective & efficient way to move from island to island. The staff could not be more friendly and knowledgeable.
